Standoff stuff.

Wouldn't stick to the ship would it? Can't imagine a ship getting so dirty that you could write "Wash me" on it.

(Yay, let's play the wait for 90 seconds game. :))

Its possible the shields or some other part of the fighter would create a slight magnetic field that make the dust stick to the fighter.

But its also safe to say that a fighter spends a good deal more time aboard ship than not so it could easily get dirty their, from dust to grease to anything else. Deep in wartime cleaning fighters spic and span doesnt exaclty become a priority.

Well, I would imagine that a shield would actually repel the dust. Keeping things away from a fighter is, after all, the whole purpose of a shield.

Well... space dust is a bit less likely... I'd think weapons scorching, marks from countless welding torches, etc. would be a bit more believable... That is more likely a cause of a "dirty" fighter...

Well, I would expect battle damage to be repaired pretty quickly.

Repair marks are almost always painted over to prevent corrosion. Since they probably only have standard military issue paint on board, you would have to look close to spot the repairs.

Battle damage would be repaired, but it's effects may not, as you can never return the fighter to its factory form. There would be small bumps and smeared painted every now and then.

...right. Well, I like dirty spaceships. Even if they have no reason to be that way, I just think it looks better. I do change things according to the feedback I get here, but this is simply... more change than I'm willing to accept :p

Now can anyone please give me some feedback on the Hhriss's textures? I really would like to know what you think of JarJarThomas's work, since I kind of know what you think of mine already.

BTW, here's the "most likely final version to be" of the Raptor. You know, redoing stuff gets really boring after the third time, so even if everyone hates how these textures turned out, I won't redo them for a while.

PS: But pleeeeease, try to talk about the Hhriss also, I really want feedback on that, since no matter how hard I try, I can't judge things I do and things other people do by the same standards.

I think that looks fine. I still feel a bit bad to lose the shiny Rapier.

The Hhriss looks just right, I think. Although the cockpit is surprisingly round, but I don't blame that on you, Eder. Is that writing on the cockpit section? If it is, I'd imagine it'd be vertical, not horizontal for Kilrathi. Just a minor problem.

Yeah, I think that is writing, and when you get closer, the characters don't look Kilrathi either... Of course this shouldn't be a problem, though. If you ever get that close to a Hhriss you will have more important matters on your mind than translating the pilot's name or something :)

Well, it was just for accuracy's sake.

I suppose it wouldn't matter, the Dokir in SWC has latin characters all over it. Not to mention it's an ugly looking thing which should be made into a supply depot... wait a sec...

Apparently all the model ships used in Star Wars have the modellers' names written in an inconspicuous spot, is the Hhriss a similar situation?

I don't write my name anywhere on my stuff.... Jar JarThomas on the other hand wrote his name all over his textures, on parts of the texture that you can't see once they're applied to the model... So I doubt he'd bother writing it for the 10000th time (in a place where you can actually see it) in some tiny and unintelligible font. But hey, maybe I'm wrong, I've only known the guy for like a week :p

Wow... never realised the missiles were actually placed on top in Drakhris...

I agree... the cockpit has a somewhat weird shape for a Kilrathi fighter...
Making it "less round" would certainly improve it, IMHO... :)

Note to self: make sure you can actually see how many missiles ships like the Drakhri have (left).
Now that would be sweet - being able to tell which ones you can allow to let off for a short time because it doens't have any missiles left...
or which isn't a threat to a carrier.

Errr, I'm certainly not the only person who keeps a mental tally of who's fired off what during a fight... you don't need to see missing missiles <G>

No, but you don't always know who's fired what, or might miss one or two.
Certainly bad when you decide to say "Hey, he's got no missiles l..."

Thanks for the render, LOAF, it should provide me with more than a few hours of entertainment... some parts of that model spell "pain in the arse" :p
