Space warship architecture

No, that's a real quote (G)

Who said that again?
Admiral Tolwyn I think, huh? :D

Navel Warfare Doctrine

In the U.S. the Carrier is the center piece of a Task Force
made up of destroyer and cruiser vessels along with other support vessels. The purpose of these vessels such as the Aegis guided missle cruiser is to (1) protect the carrier and (2) project force with guided missles such as the tomahawk. The fighters although with limited range are the projection force of the carrier task force. I liked the way WCIII had the Ajax and the Sheffield as escorts it was more like a modern day taskforce. I do agree that Space Warfare will be different than planetside warfare but I am confident that certian elements will be similar. Also if you recall WCI was described as World War II in Space.

But now long-range missiles fired by CAp ships are very prone to be shot down by fighters. And Firecontrol for guns should be quite advanced in the WCU so Capship battles would be more probable by then.
And it just looks so damn cool when two biggies fire at each other  .

Uh, what happens when they can do neither? It will happen eventually... [/B]

When that happens is is time to make a new class of ship. And I am not saying as the only ships available but as the primary ships like the "super" frigates that the USN used in the early 1800's. They were building ships of the line but the frigates were the workhorses, so I say have a few Vesuvii or somesuch with plenty of escorts then have a large number of Hades type ships and also have lots of destroyers and Corvets that can swarm enemy large ships

And were is ConFed is going to find the shipyards to build those fleets?
Its peace time people, ships cost money and require crews, besides time and materials to build then.
Also the assembly does not like to spend money on new ships (remember the hard time that the Midway project had ? ) classes or even on brand new ships.
Also for this time, there are no Bugs on know space, making huge fleets is not going to happen.

I don't think the Confed Navy will have financial troubles in the near future :). If you look in your WCP manual, you will notice that the Senate was due to vote on the budget around .030. By this time, the Nephilem invasion - and its speed and efficiency - would have been public knowledge. I don't think it would be too much to expect that the budget for military R&D experienced a sudden increase in this year's budget ;).

But that is it huge fleets are unecessary and I am talking about a non-midway fleet. A fleet that has most existing ships as the primary battle group with a few additions and then uses the Hades design, or someother similar to it as the primary workhorse capship, acting as both crusier and carrier, kinda like the cats back in WC1

Oh, that sounds good about military budget returning to wartime levels, but we'll just have to wait for the next WC game. But I don't think even an increased budget justifies a new heavy capship class, you'd have to say any new ships were in the planning for a long time, just as with the Midway and the Cerberus.

What new class? I am proposing first off a reletivly light cap ship class and second an already existing class or something close to it

It's just that which each new WC game we get a new capship class, whether they existed in the timeline earlier or not. (Hence, the misinterpretation that the Victory was newer than the Connie or the TC)

Good point except for WCIV in there we saw the same frigates, destroyers, and cruisers as well as all the fighters from WCIII and in WCSO we see Thuds and Excals

I meant the carrier you serve on, not neccessarily other ships. But then, although the Victory and Lexington were supposed to be different, they apparently used the same model.

I know that, but didn't someone (you IIRC) say that the model used for the WC4 Lexington was the same as the one used for the WC3 Victory, just different textures?

That's right -- the just re-used the carrier model.

(Aside: WCIV actually has two skins for the Lexington -- they bothered to change the '44' to a '48' on the Princeton model...).

(Aside #2: They also bothered to make the BWS Tango 'undamaged'...).

Fascinating... I only bothered to play the Speradon missions a couple of times, I didn't even notice it.

Were they Concordia class at the Speradon shipyards? or Confederation class? I could've sworn I've seen Confederation classes around in WC4

I do not think that there were any ships of the Concordia's Confederation(from WC2)class. Only the Lexington, the Princeton, the Vesuvius and the Durango.
