Secret Ops All Over Again (January 3, 2009)

Dundradal's replay moves on to Wing Commander Secret Ops next week, so this is a good time to remind people that SO is once again available to legally download and play. After the free distribution ended in 1998, the first episode served as a demo for nearly ten years. That ended last August when permission to download the game was officially restored! Prophecy Gold is a great collectible, but it's no longer the only way to legitimately obtain Secret Ops. If you missed this one back in the day, get to downloading! Most of our older vets originally waited all night for the 112 meg starter pack to finish on 1990s dialup connections, but you're (probably) just a few minutes away from Wing Commander fun! Don't forget the serial key generator used during installation and the fiction files that go along with each episode. The fiction link also includes the awesome Secret Ops teaser and trailers.
Wingnuts would also do well to check out Shades' extensive Secret Ops Guide. It's includes detailed mission walkthroughs, complete stats, game history and more!

I have updated the fiction release dates using the SObackup that was posted last summer. (see below)

If anyone sees any problem with the Secret Ops Guide please post here and let me know so that i can fix it.

I also posted to solsector a while back the German versions of SO and their episodes. Maybe you could link those in the files section for are WingNuts who would like it. I know there were requests for it before.

While I was was going through the SObackup I found the fiction and was able to use that to fix four or so pages that had errors. If you would like it let me know what the password is again to solsector and I'll upload it.

I also found a few other fiction files that were never posted as well as some with more info on some of the ones that were posted.

If you could update the fiction page with the info below and link it to the all three files (default, victory, and losing) I can update my guide with links to it.

Wow, this is great news.

It's awesome that you guys are not only keeping us informed, but are hosting the downloads as well! Thanks!

I actually never got through SO the fisrt time. I was in college at the time, and was keeping up until Ep 4, when I got slammed with exams, projects, etc., and put the game down, and by the time I had time to start playing again, I had missed the download window.
