Quality Assurance Version 1.0

ok, I've played for a while now. Some reflections in comparing to the original:

- ships that regard you as friendly and therefore don't attack you first head on are too difficult to shoot down. Very irritating when you are defending/escorting ships.

- My centurion is fully eqipped, yet 3-4 talons can kill me within seconds. I remember a full fledged centurion being much stronger and durable.

So maybe stuff like this needs better balancing?

Generally, the game is full og irritating bugs. At one point, there were no less than 20-30 pirates in Oxford system. When I landed for repairs and more missiles and got back into space again, they were all gone. Noting down all such small strange things that sort of ruin the fun would take me all day.

An oh, the repair system doesn't repair anything :)

Selling ships isn't as lucurative as it was, you basically get nothing for them (incl. addons). Selling improvements seperately gives you a lot for money.

this is more like a 0.95b. Otherwise, great job :)

Explain.

The repair droid repairs. The repair button for individual damaged components repairs them. The Basic Repair option fixes your cockpit instruments when they are damaged/turn to static.

I think it rather more likely you don't know what each option is for, though that is also a quality assurance issue.

why are the enemy (and all other) ships on the MFD 180° rotated? in the original version the ships looks down and in Remake they looks up! I think it would be better if they were not rotated like in the original version!
Other ships pointed down, your ship pointed up in the displays. We are using the same pool of images for your ship and other ships, so for the moment both face the same direction, and right now it happens to be up ;)

Likely would. Besides, it doesn't seem like most of the people who go to the trouble of requesting the pre ever bother to report back with their impressions anyway.

hey again!

Granted I don't know which buttons to press. But didn't repair happen automatically in the original?

Otherwise, a lot of strange things seem to occur when you respawn. Odd stuff like the navcomp saying you're in one system while you're actually in another!

Among other odd things happening, there are some I like :) Every now and again, you and another hunter has the same mission (which then becomes a very easy mission, yet more realistic somehow). Ships you are supposed to blow up are almost done with when you arrive at the nav etc etc. Me likes.

Respec!

Bugs in 1.0 pre

Hey guys just picked up the 1.0 pre.. WOW its like day and night compared to the beta I was running. Everything is running MUCH BETTER... screens are changing smoothly and I see that you have changed the screen views while in converstaions.. Thats alot better and makes more sence... Although could use a little more work... I love the intro being added into the game as well.. Good job.

I did notice some new issues though..

1) The Into looks like it got cut off at the bottom of the screen...
Not sure if it's been reported yet so I have Here's a screenshot for you. http://FileLibrary.MYAASite.Com/Content/19/19081/7556944.jpg

2) Also on the intro, seems the video and the audio are not synched up correctly either.. But it's still nice to have it there. :)

3)NO MERCHINARYS GUILD IN TROY...

4)When I went into the Merchants Guild the text at the top did not match the audio being played.

Anyway.. I've only been playing the 1.0 pre for 5 min now but wanted to let you know what I've found so far. So back to the game I go.

Thanks again everyone.

PS.

Hey thats what the origial does as well.. As it should... Repairs / upgrades, ect problibly took you longer then 5 min as it does you in real time.. lol I think that after a day or so thoughs pirates had to move to a less patroled system.

Dogfighting is indeed a bit of a problem..

first of all the firingrates should be increased dramaticly.. it's MUCH to slow
look at Xwing Alliance ( or any other starwars shooter) to see what would be a good firing rate.

Being able to link your guns or fire sequentially would also be nice..

and maybe it would be nice if you could hire gunners for your turrets..
some better than others

you can control your turrets to attack stuff with cntrl-t and alt-t you'll have to read the manual for details

About the option to switching off the HUD. Maybe an option that player could buy some new military grade hardware(a implant or helmet) that would remove the HUD(not that it would be cheap).
And some kind AI for player ship turrets could be nice. Player could buy the gunnery soft for turrets. But I am not sure how well it would work if player were at same time at turret when the AI is on?

NO that's NOT the idea...

for added game play it would be nice if you could choose..

manning the turrets yourself...
buy a turret computer ( maybe but they should be verry expensive)
or .... hire a gunner for one or more turrets..
and put different gunners in the game .. with different skills and experience..

te better ones should ofcourse aim better but also cost more ...

FOOD:

You should get hungry... after a while..
would be nice to put some restaurants in te game ( just for the fun)
and you could take some food with you ..
ofcourse a gunner or maybe a navigator ( or anyone else you can think of) has to eat too..

ALIEN RACES:
don't know it they're in yet but would be nice ...
and they may eat other things and/or have some skills that come naturely for them..

"first of all the firingrates should be increased dramaticly.. it's MUCH to slow

This is a Remake of the original Privateer not a Xwing game.

"Food...You should get hungry... after a while.."
This isn't a rpg.

Quality Assurance
"It isn't entering the system that does that, it is being created. It's the same with your ship. WHen it is spawned (at the beginning of a game) the shields need to charge."
But things simply aren't "spawned" in reality so they should have full shields when they are created by the game.

1 I know it isn't Xwing..
it was just an example of what I had in mind.. such slow firingrates make it hard to hit something..
maybe it's a good idea to make an upgrade option for your guns ( increase firing rate)

2. I also know it isn't an RPG it was just a wild idea to increase the gameplay

can anyone please remove this terrible race strips painted on the tarsus? the tarsus is an old "wreck" and no "fast and the furious" toy for kiddies... :)

Absolutely agreed :)

QA
When you've autopiloted to an object you can turn the autopilot still on but it doesn't do anything (you don't fly any nearer) so my suggestion is to turn it off like in the original.

hmm I hope you don't think I'm totally wacko but.. * grinn*

how about an option to paint your vessel in any color(s) you like ?
I saw that in a game once ..

This Thread is for Quality Assurance only.

dogfighting again :)

Hi
even on "easy" mode the problems are still the same:
The "avoid fire routine" which gets active as soon as the talon is demaged
makes the talons turn in so quick circles that you can hit them only by chance.
This was surely in no way as in the orignal
It makes the dogfighting boring as hell
Because you have to wait
a) until you score several hits by chance
b) the talon turns around and tries to kill you again.
c) you explode because the other talons behind you are top notch gunners, have very low inertia and /or : your ship is too big; too slow; has too much inertia to avoid.
I am sure they didnt do this in the original to such an extent that they were unable to be hit. (for whichever reason)
If you really insist to leave this routine in the game I beg you PLEASE make a switch which allows people to turn it off.
Furthermore In the origninal the difficulty was slowly increased as you got better guns and a better ship. So that you actually had a chance with a tarsus and two lasers :)
Oh and BTW i dont see any real reason why you cant make the ships larger.
The reason that Planets - shipsize ratio wouldnt fit should not be relevant as it should be possible to increase the planet-enlargement ratio as you get nearer and nearer to the planet.

Dont take the manual values for ships at least with wing commander 2 i am sure that they are not the ones which are actually used in the game. For example the broadsword shields are as astrong as the sabre shield's in manual, but in the game the broadswords shield's are fare superior.
I would suspect that it is the same with Privateer.

I almost feel sorry for criticizing this great remake but i think that the main focus should be dogfighting improvments as all other elements (graphics sound music) are already nearly finished and simply great :)
As an addition i would suggest to improve the now small base pictures just by making it part of a larger background picture (maybe a picture of a planet).

Btw can i add pictures in this post if i dont have my own webspace?

Best regards Maniac 23

Performance/quality issues then ..

version 1.0

the intro movie is verry slow..
one frame per second..

what do you use here ?? FLI,FLIC ??

Font Size Arial / Bug
Is too small especially on bases. I've attached a sample screenshot with a size suggestion and a bug (lower right corner).
Is it possible to set a different font size for base terminals and inflight GUI?

/edit: You know it looks cool on 640x480 but for 800x600 the font is especially for the base terminals too small. A dynamic adjustment would be perferct, but maybe you've already got one for pre6 :)

Intro Movie

Yea, I know the intro is a tad slow, but I'm working on it. ^^ I had sent it in to the team as sort of a Beta to the intro (has not been able to see it in game yet however, needs to download and get a running computer)

When I get the opportunity to do so, I shall do it all over again at a higher framerate. The movie ran pretty well on my machine, but i know there had been a codec issue early on.
