Privateer setup Joystick/SoundCard

Ok first off I'd like to state that I'm completely dos illiterate and will probably have to be told exactly what to type... sorry :)

Ok i have privateer on cd and installed it.
I cant seem to get my joystick to work in ms dos mode and i have no idea what to do.
Next I cant get the sound to work my card isnt on the setup list. I have an ensoniq audio pci/legacy card.

Ive read all the other posts in the forum and its greek to me so befor you ask me to post my autoexec.bat or anything else I'll need to be walked though how to do it.

thanks in advance.

Before you can be walked through it, I believe you'll need to post your autoexec.bat and config.sys. :)

I wouldn't know how to fix joystick problems though - never used them. But does the joystick work in other DOS games?

When I first got this game I had a friend install it on this very system and the joystick and sound worked fine,

but i've had to reformat my HD a few times and this is the first time I've re-installed privateer since.

ok and how do i find the autoexec.bat and config.sys?

*Sigh* ;)

Those two vital files will be at the root directory of your hard drive. Use a text editor to open them and post them here. You should be able to find them using Windows Find function anyway.

And are these the settings you installed Privateer with? IMA = 2, DMA = 1
I think you'll need to check the settings of your soundcard in Windows, you'll need a HDMA setting too.

Add 16384 RAM to the EMM386 line.
Try DEVICEHIGH for the CD-ROM line.

We'll need to find some DOS drivers for your joystick, I think.

Wonder where all the experts have gone?

Ackk!
ok I can follow the first part but the second part just blew me away :)

Well I'm going to try the first part.
If i dont reply tonight its cause my woman dragged me off to bed ,but keep posting any help I'll be back tomarrow.

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE 16384 RAM
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\MTMCDAI.SYS /d:mscd001

And I think being dragged off to bed is a much better alternative to fighting with DOS. :)

Oh trust me I'm not complaining about it :)

Ok do I just type in those commands or do I have to modify a file or something.

Also I went back through setup and tryed the settings but it just gave me an error and Jemm unloaded. :(

ok windows soundcard setting are as follows

Midi Settings
address 330
IRQ 9

Wave/SB Emulation Settings
SB Adress 220
Wave Address 534
IRQ 9
DMA 1

T - 2min till bed

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE 16384 RAM
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\MTMCDAI.SYS /d:mscd001

Change your config.sys to these - probably won't help much, but it the memory config should suit Privateer better.

I don't know if an IRQ of 9 will work in DOS, I'm still surprised none of the 'experts' are responding.

Matsu, where you running P1 from a icon in windows or from a boot disk? What OS are you using? What kind of joystick and mouse do you have? If you where where running it from a icon can your friend help you set is up again?

i have a microsoft intellimouse, the joystick is a
PC Flight Force from InterAct game products model sv-240

Unfortunatly my friend now lives in california (i'm in michigan), and he doesnt seem to check his email very often :)

No need; it's easy to modify the icon. Right-click it, hit Properties, hit Program, hit Advanced, and paste the contents of the fields you see there into your next message.

I've never ran P1 from windows, but I can see you were missing the dos driver for your sound card and I added the J200 for the joystick and SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS. If the only problem is the sound card and joy stick this should work.
I do not know what the last line is for.

Hey Thanks Johnl12!
My joystick is now working! :D

Ok one problem down, Now I'm still not getting any sound.
Most of the combinations i try, it says sound configuration incorrect and then shoves me back to the promt.
A few combinations cause the screen to go black and freezes my pc.
Any ideas to help with the sound?

BTW i just started RF I cant beleive they too my gun :(

i kinda want to figure out how this all works.
Does this problem have to do with my drivers.
For example do i have drivers for dos? (no clue)
Or is it a setup problem, because my soundcard isnt listed?
Does it matter what card it is as long as all the irq's & dma match up? as far as i can tell my card's irq is 9 but that isnt an option in the setup..

Anyone want to school me? :)
