I explain it this way: Talons and other craft are
traditional starfighters, with limited afterburn fuel.
Thus, even though they are technically faster at full
burn, they cannot burn for any length of time. We, on
the other hand, have unlimited afterburn (doubtless the
Centurion has an M/AM drive like the Dragon), and so
we can light 'em up all day and not suffer for it.
Another possibility: The Talons have unlimited afterburn
as well, but they are so underpowered that they can only
burn for short "bursts" of speed. Thus, although they
are faster than us during the "bursts", they can't
burst for long enough to catch me in my overpowered
Centurion, which, as I said, can burn all day.
Anyway, that's strictly my opinion, made out of
100% all-natural whole cloth. Does anyone have a
better explanation?
