Privateer idea

How did you find the damage rating for the Fusion?

I've noticed that the Steltek L2 does so much damage that you can have the single SL2 on your fighter and go on a killing rampage. ;)

If RF started with the ability to buy guns that were the same as the Steltek cannon, there would be very little motivation for your character to spend the entire game trying to get his gun back.

*grin* The Fusion Gun is still pretty damn good, even if it's not on the same level as the Super Steltek-Jin Level 2. ;)

I always find it amusing that a heavy fighter with a speed booster (from RF) can outrun light fighters. And I mean completely outrun, ie the distance between you and the pursuers quickly reaches 15000m so that you're out of range and can return to autopilot. :) [/B]

I explain it this way: Talons and other craft are
traditional starfighters, with limited afterburn fuel.
Thus, even though they are technically faster at full
burn, they cannot burn for any length of time. We, on
the other hand, have unlimited afterburn (doubtless the
Centurion has an M/AM drive like the Dragon), and so
we can light 'em up all day and not suffer for it.

Another possibility: The Talons have unlimited afterburn
as well, but they are so underpowered that they can only
burn for short "bursts" of speed. Thus, although they
are faster than us during the "bursts", they can't
burst for long enough to catch me in my overpowered
Centurion, which, as I said, can burn all day.

Anyway, that's strictly my opinion, made out of
100% all-natural whole cloth. Does anyone have a
better explanation?

Respectfully,

Brian P.

The two guns use the same *spot* in the game -- but not the same specs (if you load a ship with RF guns and then send it back to Privateer by switching the filename, you have steltek guns!)...

I have the stats for the Fusion around here somewhere, I'll look them up for you.

As for afterburners in Privateer: the ships you fly are *big* -- equivalent to light transports compared to milspec technology... their afterburners (using energy instead of stored fuel) are more equivalent to the Tarawa speeding up to thousands of KPS in End Run than they are to actual afterburners -- that's why they can be faster than light fighters.

The Centurion is only about twice the size of the Stiletto... it ain't THAT big.

Wow, I can't believe its that big. That is a little less than the length of a football field. Seems like they messed up on the comparison. When you buy the ship, it looks normal sized. Huh.

Not that Big, it carries 50 cargo units (75 with the expaction module), I dont know how many tons is a cargo unit, but if 1 ton = 1 cargo unit it carries 50 tons.
Besides you have doors to compare the size of the ships.

1 cargo unit = 1 cubic meter (1 ton of water). The Centurion's cargo hold could be as small as 5 meters x 5 meters x 2 meters.

Its small but I am going to give you the biggest one.
Galaxy, 150 (225 with the cargo expaction module).
The Centurion cargo hold is the smallest of the four ships.
If you have the game, go to perry naval base and see the space that ships takes on those hangars.

I remember the Centurion's cargo expansions, but I could be wrong. Not really sure.

Anyway, does anybody else think that the "hollowed-out-asteroid" that the bartender talks about is actually the location of the Steltek gun? I've read in numerous places that the asteroid doesn't really exist.

Uh, I don't recall the Centurion being able to use cargo expansions.

The only cargo expansion the Centurion gets is a relatively tiny 20 unit shielded hold between the four engines that Tayla installs for you.

It does, Crap its on the manual and I did put one, buy it on the ship dealers.

It's not listed at the ship dealer. Probably a misprint in the manual (those things DO happen from time to time).

Hmm, considering how recently I just finished replaying Priv/RF, (last week) I'd say I would have put in an expansion if I could. Centurions carry little enough as it is. Especially when you get pirates to attack merchants for you :)

Actually the "hidden" cargo space is there before Tayla actually installs it. When you take on Sandoval's mission, he gives you an artifact, this artifact gets stored in that "hidden" space. This is why when you get scanned for contraband, they dont see it, and it doesnt get ejected if you dump your cargo, nothing inside the "hidden" space will get ejected when dumping the rest of your cargo. But you cant put anything in there until Tayla actually installs the hidden space.

The hollow asteroid the bartender spoke of is supposedly inside Kilrathi space just byond the frontier. I do not think he meant the derelict Steltek base. How is anyone in the Gemini system to know that thing is actually there until you find it during the stint in ES. And Dr. Monkhouse has no idea that it is there because he does not have the other half of the map (artifact) until you show him the other half you get from Sandoval. But then there is the fact that the Kilrathi is strung out all over that region which is supposed to be unexplored. Somehow the cats got idea that something was out there. Confed also had hints to something being there, otherwise, why whould they have the ES map that sector unless there was good reason to. The fact that the Kilrathi are all over that sector suggests they too found evidence of a base or other relic in that region. That part of the system is far away from the boarder of Kilrathi space if you look at the WC universe map. But after endless searches in the Kilrathi sectors, covering every inch based on the nav map and the ship blip position, I have yet to find that asteroid! I think its as the bartender stated, just a rumor! The game makers probably put that in so you end up in Kilrathi space and test your dogfighting skills!! :D

I don't think the artefact is part of the 'hidden' space, it's just that since it's central to the storyline, the game code prevents you from ejecting it.
