Party Count Down: One Week To Go (August 3, 2005)

We're down to the last week before the CIC turns seven years old. We hope that many of you can join us online next Wednesday to celebrate. The release of Standoff Episode 2 has already been announced, and a few other contributors have been working hard to prepare other things to share with fellow fans. When we official begin the party at 7:00 pm Eastern US (4:00 pm Pacific US and 11:00 pm GMT) in #Wingnut, a 60 minute timer begins counting down to our actual anniversary. Although that focal point is where we update the CIC, prizes will be given out for an hour before and after that time. Each year a few people get time zones mixed up and come late, so we strongly recommend checking in early and matching up your time zones personally with us. Wednesday evening in the US works out to Thursday morning in Australia. Everyone will eventually be able to enjoy what we feature on the front page, but the online party is a particularly unique event that only comes once a year. It's the biggest simultaneous gathering of Wing Commander fans anywhere, and all kinds of fun stuff always develops because of that.

i nkow this is kinda off topic, but what is that station in the pic? it looks totally unlike the disk shaped station like caer... cearnevaren(?) the wc2 one or perry. thuogh i guess the docked thip is not a confederation

The ship looks like a Tarawa-type CVE... and my vauge guess would be that the station is Fleet Yard 5 (or whatever its equivalent is to the CVE in Standoff's story).

thats a great wall paper, but it makes my eyes go crazy when I look at it. Its like its going "WHERE DO I FOCUS" lol. Still, I do like it.

Focus was supposed to be on the Gilgamesh, though I might've missed the mark on the DOF a little. But my policy is that excess blur is better than too little blur, specially when the models aren't too high detail. :p

And yes, that's a Tarawa-type CVE (you would see it's the Guadalcanal from Episode 1, if the name and number were readable in that pic :p), and the station is just a generic drydock/spaceyard thing.

Yes, as long as I look right at the middle ship its okay. if I look at the sides my head spins, :)

I'm kinda new to IRc, and i've logged onto #wingnut, but there was noone there. I'm in California, so I should log on a little before 4:00 PM on August 10 to be part of the prize drawing?

There's all sorts of people logging in for like 30 seconds and ditching out before anyone can type out a hello. I haven't really left #Wingnut since 1997, so I was probably there when you came in. 4:00 pm is fine next Wednesday.

If you look very carefully, you'll notice that it's actually a scaled-up version of the spacelab model from WC4.

Wow, one year has already come and gone?! Time really does fly. Well once again I have to express my sincere thanks and admiration for each of you dedicated staff members that toil exhaustively updating the website and responding to the 15th million thread about the movie etc. You guys are terrific!

Also, most of the forum members ain't half bad either...;)

People in the US need help calculating the time zones?

Well, the party starts at 4 pm Pacific time, so that means it starts at 5 pm mountain time. Things will be winding down by 7:30 pm mountain time. I told everyone weeks ago to get time off in advance.

I found the problem. You're one of the people coming in and saying hello, waiting 30 seconds for someone to reply, and then dashing. Every time you've come in, people have been there, but nobody's even been able to type out a hello before you've gone.

Besides that most of the people in #wingnut have lives and arent sitting there staring at the monitor 24/7 itching for someone to type something. I might be playing a game or doing some video editing with IRC on in the background. So I might only be checking it every five or ten minutes. Quite often, people come and go between the times I check.
