Be careful though, that one can sometimes be dangerous to your health.

And don't be surprised if they say that since you're not already a pilot-type, that laser surgery is cosmetic and therefore optional and therefore unneccessary and therefore go get it done on your own dime.

At Lackland AFB they perform the surgery for all Active Duty members free of charge. I know a few crew chiefs who got that lucky TDY to Lackland and came back spectacle free!
I would think that it was more of taking the shot to get rid of the glasses for free, than some kind of vanity thing. Glasses and contacts are a pain, and getting rid of them would be a plus, regardless of your looks.
