Newbie Question on WC Prophecy

True LOAF, but wasnt that kind of a waste of his rank at the time? And the fact that the Midway class megacarrier was his idea kinda makes a position of advisor like a janitor with medals on his chest to a CEO without medals!Weird! He seemed to command the Intrepid in WCIV just fine, and at that time his rank was lower!

well i kinda thing blair did a great jod on the intrepid in WCIV(game) and besides; who ells could eisen have left in charge?
Hawk? no way, he'd have panter on his back 24/7
Panter? samething vice versa
maniac? i'd think not!
Dekker? could be, but it wouldn't be wise.
who's left? catcratch? sosa? blade?

blair was pretty mush the only person capeble of command at that time.

Ya there wasnt much choice for Eisen to leave the ship to! But Blair did execute his command opportunity with 5 star rating IMO.

Blair wasn't *really* in charge of the Intrepid, though... Garibaldi ran it for him.

As for WCP -- Blair was *not* a member of the Midway's command crew... he was Senior Military Consultant on her design team, and was aboard during her deep space trials for observational purposes only. Had the Nephilim not have trapped the Midway, he would have retired from active duty and returned to Earth as a part time TCSF and TCSN advisor and TCSFA lecturer.

Who is Garibaldi? Admiral Wilford i could see as having commanded Blair from afar. Just cause he didnt feel up to it doesnt mean he couldnt have done a decent job of commanding. Look at Bonderevsky, he was barely new to commanding a wing and then took over as captian of the Tarawa where he stayed.

Garibaldi's mentioned in the Price of Freedom novel.

From what I understood, Garibaldi had all the training necessary for captaining the Intrepid, he just lacked rank and maybe experience if I recall...

When Eisen appointed Blair as captain of the ship, Blair himself even suggested that Garibaldi should be given that position. Eisen refused, for the reasons above.
Yet, Garibaldi was Blair's "advisor" during the short time of command by the "Heart of the Tiger"... :)

Thats kind of interesting. I wouldnt think in the Border Worlds, that a slight difference of rank would matter for the person to be captain, and Blair had no experience either.

But i guess since neither had expereince rank won out.

I think the problem was that, even though Garibaldi was qualified, he wouldn't have been able to exert control over people like Hawk, Panther and Maniac (G) (Which is what Blair spent his captaincy doing...)

(Bondarevsky, on the other hand, turned out to be a natural commander -- he had both experience and the respect of his crew).

Did Captain O'Brian remind anyone else of the captain from that one movie, Mr. Roberts i think, about a cargo ship during WWII? It's an old movie and the captain was a complete jerk (he was irish so it makes the comparison closer) the title character was a good guy who tried to do all he could for the crew. In the end he was finally allowed to transfer to a destroyer and was killed. Anyone know what im talking about?

Yeah, the movie is called "Mister Roberts", and it was based on a play... and O'Brian definately reminds me of the Captain. (Mister Roberts and its sequel regularly play on that classic movie channel in the US)

Thats probably where i saw it, only four weeks ago.

Question, if he died in the first movie, what was the sequel about?

And most of the senior staff was dead.......

And the fact that he has practice taking command! Not to mention any mutinees or anything...

The sequel ("Ensign Pulver"), was another story with the same transport crew, after he'd died.

(The IMDb says there was a TV series' in the 80s, too)

Well Bonderevsky did seem to be able to keep his priorities in order. He didnt run off the bridge and jump into a cockpit everytime his ship came across an enemy fighter :)

No, he just hopped in a fighter every time he ran across a troop transport carrying his lover.

He didnt go over to the troop transport when it was parked right next to Kilrah

He was on the bridge when he wanted to go back for Svetlana wasnt he? :)

yes O´Brain just wanted to flee (coward) but after having sustain that much damaged it would be best to jump, besides her trasport was down and there were in the Kilrathi home world, I understand his position, I could do the same but there was not much of the Tawara when it got back to ConFed space, it was the only ship that made it back.
