New Map for Privateer & Righteous Fire

I just took a brief look inside some of the Priv and RF sector files... it looks like editing existing systems would not be extremely difficult (just very difficult :)). Adding new systems, on the other hand might pose extreme difficulty, since it involves increasing the size of the sector.iff file. BUT, if we could work out the header (usually not too difficult) by comparing Priv and RF (since RF's sector.iff is larger than the other - it has Eden tacked on at the end), then even new systems would not be too difficult...

...except for one minute detail. I doubt that the game could handle us adding another quadrant.

HCl explains a bit about jump lines in his info files, but a lot more research will be needed.

I think I'm gonna try a little experiment, later today... I'm gonna try to put the Derelict Base back into RF. It's a good project to start with, I think, since it involves looking at only about two lines. Of course, if I have any success, I might just decide to plant a different type of base there ;).

(Oooh... Perry Naval Base in Delta Prime :D)

I am interested in this project Kazan, if you want to work on a WC project we can always use Help with WC Universe which is a privateer like game with wc ships in it. I need modellors, artists and programmers, so if your interest6ed contact me, my e-mail is Darkmage50@start.com.au

Well if it turns out we cannot add quadrants will just have to break the universe map into four parts and have each prexisting quadrant 1/4 of the universe map [may get a little cramped]

i wish you guys would tell me how you reverse engineer this so i can help

oh.. i see HCL has a reference of the .tre format :) time to write an extractor in about ten minutes :D

I've got an up and running TRE file extractor - and if we ever need i i could prolly toss togeather a TRE file packager

oh for reference these are the -o <filenum> <filename> indecies for the sector files

Priv.tre:
745: ..\..\DATA\SECTORS\BASES.IFF
746: ..\..\DATA\SECTORS\QUADRANT.IFF
747: ..\..\DATA\SECTORS\SECTORS.IFF
748: ..\..\DATA\SECTORS\TABLE.DAT
749: ..\..\DATA\SECTORS\TEAMS.IFF

RF.tre:

805: ..\..\DATA\SECTORS\BASES.IFF
806: ..\..\DATA\SECTORS\QUADRANT.IFF
807: ..\..\DATA\SECTORS\SECTORS.IFF
808: ..\..\DATA\SECTORS\TABLE.DAT
809: ..\..\DATA\SECTORS\TEAMS.IFF

A pain in the arse? Most people have no trouble using them.. I'm surprised that supposedly intelligent person had trouble with them.. :)

the ones i could _find_

i didn't even see a Priv 2 TRE extractor on the WCIC files section.. the only other TRE extract i've seen is the one for WCP TRE's [which are different] at it doesn't work at all

Priv 2 doesn't use TREs, Priv 2 uses a completely different system. TREman works on WCP, Secret Ops, Armada, and Privateer TREs. It also extracts files from WC3 and 4 TREs which have filenames which start with a letter, but that TRE format hasn't been entirely cracked yet. Ripper should extract anything TREman doesn't though.

i meant a Priv one

TREman? didn't see it

what we need to decode is the IFF information for sectors and stuff.. anyone already figured it out and have a reference?

TreMan is right there on HCl's page... seek and you shall find :). Unfortunately, TreMan is still limited - the option of adding files has not been implemented, and it will have to be if you want to mess with the CD version of Priv. If you could do that, that would be good...

(and if you could implement a BMP-to-IFF converter so that ships could be added to Priv, that would be even better)

Well, I've only ever used HCl's TREManager, and it was very useful in getting the WCP orchestral tracks. :)

Well i was digging around HCL's site and a i saw it now..

anyways implementing a TRE packer shouldn't be to difficult.. anyways i gotta go take my finals today and tommorow.. catchya later

Oh you decoded the format? so you want a TRE repackager i suppose.... ill write it tommorow or thrusday
