Network for WC Files

Since WC CIC has blocked the files section because of their money scam :( . I was thinking of getting all the WC Files that they list. I think some people should put the files on different web servers and use 1 page to list them all. If you think this is too complex or stupid please tell me.

Unfortunately, all WC fans who've already paid for CIC Complete have signed a contract that does not allow such a thing. Surely they would not risk their privileged access to Cpl Hades' anime collection or LOAF's creepy Chinese game collection.

Wing Commander is dead and you are slobs who do not want sponsors. Because of you CIC slobs there will be 2 factions formed 1 I will form. The Non Money scabbing WC Community and the Slobs of Money Scabbing WC Community . If you don't want this to happen then find other ways of getting money . Don't scab money off a helpless WC fan !

You raise a good point, so I've moved this to the off topic thread where more people will see it. Finding ways to pay for our escalating costs does equate with money scabbing, so perhaps we will call the whole thing off. One thing's for sure, no refunds for those who've already paid.

You are going to die ,WC will not. Also maybe it was fake the CIC complete but I and lots of WC fans would want to help and they would pay.I have D/L the hole WCnews.com page and I have the Guides and the Database etc into a CD but I would still want to pay cause I want to help somehow this page ,cause I dont want it to be abandoned or closed. The price was veeeeeeery low 20$ !

You must be an idiot not to pay such a small price. You dont lose anything

May I suggest something?

How about making WC News Tea-Shirts, Mugs etc and then selling them on the site

We had a cafepress site which sold CIC shirts and mugs and stuff, but it wasn't exactly a huge success. We also had a load of CIC pens made but they're really special so we aren't selling them.

Boy, I sure hate really long usernames.

If you've got a gigabyte of webspace and a few gigs of transfer available, you're welcome to run a Files mirror. We currently have two mirrors (albeit one is somewhat out of date): our own FTP and Blacklance.org. If you put them up, drop me an e-mail with the URL and I'll add the mirror links.

But if you do have a gigabyte of webspace available, I think some other guy with a really long username (realcommanderblairontheblockheads or something) is looking to have some large animations hosted. Since we already have two Files mirrors available the community might benefit more from that.

Or you could make them available on a P2P network of your choice if you personally have the upstream capacity and prove once and for all those things aren't just for porn, MP3s and more porn.

I should also like to point out that the Files section (and the other 'locked' sections) were available this whole time from any page other than the index (even from the subscription page!)

It also takes a surprising amount of time to get one of those things off the ground: come up with some art, do it over 17 times because you know jack about graphics, cash the annual $3 cheque. I'd rather just pay the thousands of Dollars, because that's the kind of slob I am!

Yeah, then they kept emailing us about closing down the shop because nobody ever bought anything. While we kept the prices decent, that was at the expense of almost all profit. In all we probably spent a couple dozen man hours on the shop to make about $15.

You know, had the CIC staff really been on the ball, they could have made the 'locked' sections forbidden too - you could still access them by typing the correct URL. Although, I guess they didn't really want to do that. :)

You could access them from anywhere on the site other than the index.. even the subscribe page wasn't locked :)
Only the index had the "locked" menu.

Hmm, I thought the side menus were generated separately from the main part of the page on the server. That way, changes to the menus will affect all the pages on the site. Oh well, even more proof the whole idea was a joke! :)

They are, we just pointed the index to a different set of menus. It was quite deliberate that the rest of the site remained unlocked.

Yeah, fair enough. Still, it was obvious that not enough people decided to look elsewhere other than the main page. :)
