Lexington-class Heavy Carrier

Destroyer of assclowns
This thread is being started to publically unveil the latest work of the WC Saga.

This next one is the Lexington-class heavy carrier, a vessel that was in service around 2669. If you didn’t know already, this vessel was seen in the Wing Commander Armada game and as the remade Tiger’s Claw in Super Wing Commander. A Special Operations-modified version was the TCS Lexington from Armada. Other “stock” ships of the class include (but are not limited to) the Bradshaw, Kinney, Kennedy, and the Lincoln. For all sakes and intentions, these are the rivals to the newest Kilrathi Bhantkara-class heavy carriers and are comparable in size and tonnage.

Armament is a modernized “WC3-era” loadout: 12 laser turrets and 3 IFF Missile Turrets. Spacecraft complement is 80 fighters, 20 bombers, and 20 support vessels.

Our original intention was not only to modernize this design, but also to make it true to WC canon. The End Run novel makes references to Bainbridge telling Tolwyn, “It’ll be another year before our new heavy carriers come online!”. We are making the Lexington-class to be that new heavy carrier. Also, the End Run novel made references to the newest Confed carriers having three launch bays. With a single fly-through launch bay and two smaller side bays we have put into this model, this fits End Run quite nicely.

Here are the pictures. It should be noted that the ship model and textures are the real model, and what it looks like is exactly what you’ll see in WC Saga.

Credits are as follows: model by Eder Vieito, and textures by Michael “Lynx” Lechner.

*gasps*

That's.... good. I like it. I like it a lot. Of course, all of the models you guys have made, especially carriers, are on my 'Like' list.

That is absolutely beautiful! I haven't been able to play my copy of armada in quite a while, but from what I remember, it is true to the game, and just looks stunning! That is one ship I look forward to seeing in game.

excellent job... and nice bump, glow and spec maps applied by me, too ;)

See you all in one week :D

geez, I thought this was another of Sylvesters attempts at designing capships but Im glad to see I was wrong! Looks awesome!

AS fucking gorgeous as that is, theres one thing I'd like to see - those pylons from the Victory put on the front of her. Don't ask me why - I know they weren't on the WCA version, but I thought it might fit the design.

Looks really great! Congratulations!

Also, it looks a lot like about how I pictured the escort carriers (TCS Tarawa) from End Run. Well, maybe a lot smaller, but with this look. Blame TIE Fighter for that. :p

Anway, is that lateral thing a secondary hangar? Is it connectde to the main one? Will it include scoops like the other WC3-era ships?

Yep, there's two small lateral hangars (I believe this was done due to a passage in ER that says something like "newer designs had two, even three launch bays")... they don't connect to the main hangar, or to each other.

The passage in question concerns design philosophy for the new carriers. Bondarevsky (I think that's spelled correctly) is commenting on the fact that Tarawa only has one launch bay, while the new fleet carriers have three. Excellent model. I do have one point: if they aren't connected internally, what's stored in the hangers and what happens if the main hanger is destroyed? That decreases the problem, but it doesn't solve it.

This is a question of Confederation design philosophy, not of the model itself. It's gorgeous.

Well, I was talking only about the model... I have no idea wheter the hangars are meant to connected, but the model just happens to have their doors closed or whatever.

Looks great, but it feels under armed...12 turrets and 3 missile turrets? I would have thought there might be a little bit more....

all I have to say is good luck to anyone who attacks it. I beta-tested it's weaponry when I was flying a Darket and I got assholed by the lasers. Those missiles also add a nasty bite

It's consistent with the armaments of other WC3 era ships. The ships database doesn't even give confed ships IFF launchers.

But no capship missile launcher?
