How ANNOYING did you find the fact...

Keen Commander
...that friendly capital ships in WC1 NEVER fired at enemy craft?

The Tiger's Claw, all the Drayman you had to escort, the Exeters, the Venture... NEVER fired at the enemy!!
Only occasional fighters that gave you support, did indeed support you by fighting back...

On the other hand, Lumbaris, Dorkirs, Snakeirs, Ralaris and Fralthis did not ask twice before firing at you... Granted, they did not do much damage with their flaks (unlike in WC2), but they did fire...

Now to what was this due? Bug? Omission? LOAF? ;)

Eh eh... you never know... LOAF is responsible for many things these days... ;)

But seriously, why? Quid, quomodo, quando?

Ehm indeed, but not only is this stupid, it also takes out some realism out of the game... :(
(why does it say in the Claw Marks that the Claw has X number of flak cannons, when he doesn't use a single one?!!! )

It could have been worse--I'd rather the ships under my escort sit back and let me handle the bogies then turn me into a friendly-fire casualty *cough*CERBERUS*cough*.

Oddly, I seem to remember seeing the Tigersclaw comm come through once or twice display that they'd dispatched an enemy fighter (maybe my memeories playing tricks on me, or maybe a few salthis did a suicide run.).

Yeah the Claw did 'dispatch' fighters, however I believe this was more from the enemy ramming the Claw just like our good mingmates did!

Except those stupid wingmen who keep their formation very tide and ram the Claw. :)

I always lost Spirit that way in the first WC1 mission.:) It would take me so freakin long to figure out how to land, she would always kill herself.

Eh eh... it's true that in WC1 you had to approach the Claw EXACTLY from the front, where the landing bay was, in order to get the landing sequence... otherwise you just kept smashing into the ship... :(

I loved those landings... it was pretty much the only time in the entire series where side views actually came in useful.

Look out the window when you're passing alongside the 'Claw, and then pivot 90 degrees when you see the 'Claw instantaneously changes from side/front-on to front-on in the window. :)

Gotta love those sprites.

Wow... why don't you just look at the claw, figure out what side you're on and fly to the front?

TC

I liked making my landing spot-on, so I didn't just AB past the 'Claw and head for its front. I would always fly past slowly watching the 'Claw in the side view, and then at the right time I would turn and switch to forward view. Indeed, just like Wedge said.

I for one am glad that they did away with that in WC2. To many times did i head straight for the front of the Claw only to have the sprite suddenly shift so i ram it's side at the last second.
