Help with shields

Ok guys I posted this in the Fanprojects section but unfortunatly I have only gotten Wildcat who got me the original base files from wcso. But I need screenshots as well. Of what you ask, I need screenshots of shield effects becuase I am talking to these two very well know and well respected HW modders who are offering to specialise shields they made for another mod for Wing Commander, once they do this, if I can get them pictures I will send them to the FA team as well as to LOAF and the CIC.
For any who are in the HW modding community the two who I am getting as you may have guessed are none other than "Sjet v Kerrigan".
BTW Loaf I know you sent me one and I appreciate it, but I sent it to them and they asked for some more to get a better idea.
 
Just to qualify Prophesy/Secret ops are both easier to get screenshots in and also are probably better since they are newer, but from anygame would still be good.
 
Not to be annoying or anything but if you guys want to have the very best quality wing commander mods ect. I need these SHIELD PICS
 
Never, *ever* blame the public for not helping you with the mod... if you want shield pictures, TAKE THEM YOURSELF! It's *NOT HARD*. You've asked for them in four places (at least one of them highly inappropriate) for several days now, and no one's sent them to you. Just load up Prophecy or SO, shoot something and hit printscreen. If you don't have Prophecy or SO, download the fricking demo.

But LOAF, that'd require several things WC Fan Project-y People lack. The ability to make logical decisions which result in profitable outcomes, initiative, and an actual drive to complete their work, rather than simply hype it to the unthinking masses.
 
OK let us begin, first off, I stated that the Fan Fiction place was not a correct place and i had made a mistake but had not noticed until about 3-4 hours later as such I could not change my post due to the 2 hour time limit bit. Second, i have not stated this but the reason I am asking others is because on my attempt to re-load prophesy/secret ops the install crashed 1/2 of the way through, and as such did not work (i had to re-install because I switched machines and hadn't wanted to play for a while). Third, FROSTY, WTF first off I did do the .shp ing thing and showed what I consider initiative in doing so then thinking to apply other pre-exisiting items to this project considering my general lack of programing ability, and more importantly as I have already mentioned I could not do this any other way, and did I not say, "not to be annoying" meanwhile I am uterly discusted that anyone woudl assume that people who are working to add to the universe, something I don't see you doing frosty, is doing anything other than making their and YOUR life more enjoyable, so I am offended. I am also a very logical person and that is why instead of giving up I am being persistant because in all logical probability it will eventually pay off. I find both frosty and loaf's posts in general bad taste due to these facts, and to say this I am not placing any blame I am mearly stating that this is being done *FOR YOU* and since I cannot do it myself, for afformentioned reasons, I would expect that somebody would be willing to help themselves and everybody else out, I guess that is just too much to expect from anybody. BTW LOAF I know you haven't said this but I did say that you did attempt to help me out and I have thanked and will again thank you for your effort, but this does not belay both of your (especially Frosty's) rudeness and lack of any personal integrity to attack somebody who is attempting to DO something.

I would like to conclude by stating once again that I am gravely offended by the comments by Frosty and to a lesser degree loaf. Especially since I am being critisized by frosty who I have yet to see do ANYTHING to help out the community in comparison to the exact same people he is critisizing. Until you do something of value, don't critisize somebody else for trying. This is all I have to say in response to these tasteless posts.

It's true that someone doing a fan project needs to be encouraged, not criticized... but if indeed you were being insisting on those pics because you did not get them, perhaps you lacked a bit of patience...
I'm sure neither Frosty nor LOAF meant to be rude... maybe they were exhausted to constantly see you complaining that you did not get any help...

I don't have Prophecy, otherwise I'd have given you the pics myself...
But LOAF's right... you just need to download the demo, and get them yourself. No need to get mad about it... :)

as I stated based on my current CD situation I cannot. And downloading the demo IIRC 112 mb, on a 56k line would take quite a while. I am currently working my hardest to correct my cd problem but in the meantime the people who can make the shields only have a few days inbetween projects to be able to work for us so I am in a hurry.

Now that the killing-rage has passed, allow me to explain five points:

The universe does not owe YOU *anything*. Doing a fan project is a way to help keep Wing Commander alive in these dark times -- *not* a chance to win some personal glory. Deciding to work on one is not the same as agreeing to commit tagugar -- no instant worship, no every-demand-met, no personal honorific. :) If people want to help you, they'll help you -- if they don't, or can't, they won't. Repeating demands over and over is just rude.

Everyone here has worked, in some degree or another, to help keep Wing Commander alive. Every single one of us. Just because some people get more credit than others doesn't mean that it hasn't been a group effort. So you released a mod for Fleet Action -- we're glad somebody did. But we're also glad Frosty helps us with difficult HTML tricks or that Phoenix helps organize the Aces. You're one of many, many people who've helped. That doesn't give you the right to demand anything.

No one can read your mind. You have no right to be offended because people don't know you can't run Prophecy. If you don't tell them that, they'll just assume you're being lazy -- even if you're not.

It's a very, very good idea to check your facts. The Prophecy demo is 38 megs -- if you have a 3Dfx card, you can run the 3Dfx test with only a 13 meg download.

You're still banned.
 
Why ban the guy? OK , he might not be right but he hasn't SEVERLY broken the TOS of the message board. Correct him about the demo's download length and admonish him about his criticisms , as you did , and move on. I don't think this community is in any position to ban anyone who is at least giving the appearance of trying to further the genre. Unless this guy has a past history of BS like this then why not give him another chance? Certainly it will be a LOOOOOONNNG time before we see any WC related stuff from real game developers , although i wonder if Chis Roberts will ever try and make another WC game now that Origin is dead..i wonder if he has any legal rights to WC after a certain time period..like Richard Garriot can now use Lord British again. Anyone have any info on that?

P.S Thanks for all the help in my earlier posts , this is a fun community.

No, EA retains the rights to WC -- and to Ultima... when RG signed on with EA, they agreed that he would keep the rights to the name 'Lord British'... but nothing else.
 
I suppose Nap's crime was just arrogance... towards the wrong people. I'll unban him -- and whack him back to cadet, as a reminder.

Thanks for saying that. I was wondering about this for a while, and it's clear you know more about this than I do. :)

A bit harsh, maybe...but all things considered, I'd say he got off lightly. :)


So what do we learn from all this?

LOAF is a god...don't mess with him! :)
 
I think what could be learned from this is never demand or push requests to a point where youre making the fans feel obligated to your project. When I asked for a wireframe drawing of the Centurion, I only needed to post it once in one area of the CZ. It took 2 or 3 days to get a response, which was ok by me. If you involve others in your project, you have to adjust the entire project schedule to fit everyones free time, and nowadays, free time is a rare and valuable commodity. I would have to agree with the actions of the CIC admins on this matter, to shove requests in a manner that does not come in the form of "politeness and paitence" has no place on any forum. As LOAF stated, the universe owes us nothing. But we can contribute in a fair and polite manner, things to keep WC alive.
