Fighting Style

well there you go, those tactics work well with rookie, no offence but any tactics will work well on rookie, try it on the higher settings and see if you keep those tactics then you will know what your fighting style is.

Okay, here's one for the Tigershark.

Switch to your charging mass drives
Start Charging immediately.
Quickly taunt as many bugs as you can to get them coming after you.
Target the nearest bugship.
Go head to head. Just as (or just before if you can time it right) he comes into range, let fly. Keep flying straight. Start charging again.
Turn slightly just before his shots hit you. He cops a fully charged mass driver and goes boom. You get nothing.

If you're good, and the bugs are reasonably well spaced, you can get a heap of them in a hurry like this. Of course, it only works against lighter ships like Morays, Mantas (or anything Kilrathi) which can be taken down by a single shot. Against heavier targets, you're probably better off saving your power until you pull in behind.

I love the charging mass almost as much as the fission cannons. I am a good enough shot that I love being able to do a one hit, one kill kind of thing

The Black Shrike is the best "light"-bomber around. Those pearticel cannons kick some ass (the fast paritcle gun that's also on the Black Wasp).

But the head-on-head tactic works every time, but don't try it when your front armor is low or gone. A manta or devil ray will frag you in a sec.

The Black Wasp? Black Wasp gun compliment is 2 dust cannons and 2 cloudburst.

Unless you just go with the Dust Cannons on the Black Wasp. Those suckers will either kill him quicker than he can kill you, or make him panic and run! :D

Additional to the earlier suggestion for the TigerShark. At long range, starting at 16000, launch a barrage from the Dragonfly RP's. On a Moray, 8 rockets will suffice as long as all hit. While you're letting loose, charge the charging mass drivers. When the first one goes down, you're primed for the second. At this point, they'll be scattering, and you can simply hunt them down. ;)

Stupid question ... does taunting do any good? I occasionally use it when the bad guys are making a
bombing run. They usually insult me right back, then
continue their run... *BOOM*.

the best tactics were in WC I and II...

That's when enemy missiles didn't kill you in one single hit... and it was the best for me...

In WC I, the tactic I used most with enemy ships formations, was to hit head-on a couple of fighters with my cannons, fire a few rounds head-on I mean, then hit the afterburners to the side, to avoid THEIR shots... turn around, and engage closest target... always keeping an eye on the redar, watching my back...

This tactic did wonders with the Raptor... sometimes, when I was in the Hornet or Scimitar, I even tried to fire a Dumbfire on that head-on pass... LOL it sometimes worked...

I always left the Cap ship for last, unless it was set to jump out, in which case I ordered my wingman to attack it...
Remember how pitiful those Flak guns were in WC I? :D
Yes I know, according to Claw Marks it should be the OTHER WAY AROUND: the wingleader must accomplish the mission objectives, the wingman must make sure he stays alive in that process. But what the hell...

In WC II, roughly the same, except it was a lot easier to get killed in battle, due to the superior firepower of the ships, as well as that new "turret" feature... I remember in that mission, you were in a Ferret with Shadow as your wingman, and had to protect those two Broadswords making a run on that Ralatha, a hell of a time to complete the mission!
Therefore, for ships with turrets: stay out of their line of fire, your shields and armor can get down pretty quickly, ATTACK FROM THE SIDES...

Torpedo runs: VITAL in a Broadsword to get rid of the fighter escort first! Then, lock-on with torpedoes, and fly very close by (usually 5000 km for me), then unload the shit and head away, back for another run... 'cause this time the flak cannons destroyed the torpedo pretty fast...

WC III was a major transition, tactics changed radically, it was a hell lot harder...

In the WCII manual, it tells you to slow down and switch to your turrets while on a torpedo run, but I always found that I just got nailed more quickly doing that. Instead, I would kickstop just outside of the cap ship's firing range, and just inside the torp's range, wait for lock, then go to full throttle until I hit about 2500m, then let the torp go, where they can't shoot it down. On big ships it was necessary to do this twice.

Anybody else have any different methods?

Well Fenris, that's exactly the method I used (and most probably the one that MOST guys used in WC II, after they nailed the whole fighter escort).

I forgot to mention that the GOOD thing that appeared in the later WCs, was that missiles could be "paired" (or whatever the term is) i.e. you could fire all your torpedoes at once!! Pretty good advantage huh?
