"Your in a great deal of trouble! Assulting a poilice officer. Theft of poilce property. Illigal possesion of a fire arm. And five counts of attemted murder! The total is $29.18! So what will it be? Cash, check, or credit card?"

If only the legal system were really like that. :D

"You have the rite to remain silent. Anything you can can be used against you in a court of law. Do you understand these rites?"
"No."
"Damn, then I can't arrest you!!!"

Been geeking out as it were and renting Sci Fi vids. Most recently Farscape which I have never been able to watch in it's entirety. Always been amazed at the creativity of the show and of course it's humor.
Most of the popular tv shows, Star Trek, Farscape, Wing Commander are soap operas with futuristic, tech and of course violence thrown in to entice a wider audiance.
When I was younger and got in trouble in with the law and spend six month in county I was very suprised that all of the guys (including the CO's) would clamore to the tv to watch Days of Our Lives every day. After that it would go back to BET or MTV till prime time. Even now I find that funny that all these matcho gang bangers and criminals....But it's the story that captivates us after all is it not? And seeing what will happen in their fictional lives and how it may apply to our own. Morals seems to be a base to any of them all since we all have those.

Babylon 5, Star Trek (all of them), Wing Commander, Farscape. Any other good recommendations?

I have the Dune DVD's (patric Stewert and the guy from Quantum Leap) is in the first one. Good movie, remember watching it with my father when I was like 8 years old. Giant worms (giant meal worms) and the wierding ways. Very much worth watching. Twords the end stuff gets real cool..of course thats when the dying starts.

The 2 Sci-Fi Frank Herberts Dune movies are decent. Firefly, Space Above and Beyond, Current Battle Star Galactica, Current Terminator Series(very soap opera), Torchwood and Dr. Who.

It's always hell and heaven with sci-fi movies.

The older ones do stand out though:
- aliens
- Jason X
- Totall recall

Dr. Who is something special, the revamped serie is not impossibly complex, yet holds all of the series and spin-offs intact, and torchwood/drwho season-crossover with captain jack grabbing hold of the tardis in the season's finale was great :D

I am looking for older movies though, such as ice-pirates(rare find), and space truckers...

And on series many thumbs up for stargate atlantis....

What the fuck is the point of this thread? Given enough replies you're simply going to wind up with a list of every science fiction production ever. Of course, if you wanted to cull the list to exclude anything terrifically shitty you'd just end up with some stupid flame war where nearly everyone reveals themselves to be assholes who like Battlestar Galactica because they're stupid idiots.

So tell me what's actually going on here.

Chill out. :) I'm not trolling for trouble.

Just basically asking people about good sci fi movies, tv shows aside from the ones that EVERYONE knows about like Star Trek, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica. Looking off the beaten track so to speak.
There are always some movies, shows, games out there that don't get as much puplicity or floped in their first season. Or simply to list the ones you enjoy in particular. Heck, even memories of your fav show as a kid. This is an open forem to talk about fun stuff like this with felow sci fi freaks and thought it would be fun.
Thread hasn't deteriorated into a flamefest up until...and I hope it doesn't. Please be light hearted people. Love makes the world go around. :)

If need be just close the thread. I really am sorry.

You're fine. It's all the morons replying to your post with bulleted lists of every TV show they've watched or novel they've read this year without any explanation or description that are pissing me off.

If one of you is going to recommend something, explain why, don't just list the DVDs on your desk right now. Put some content in it or get the fuck out.
You're a fuckwit.
It's spelled b-a-n-a-n-a, genius.

[Edit] Also, don't bother with Super Neon Harmony Battlestar Galactica, it's dreadful. (Now watch all the BSG fags get on my case, proving what I said earlier.)

Have'n't''' we been through that before on this board? Stop baiting people.

You're a fuckwit.

1998 wants its incredibly clever word back. I mean, I'd like to agree with you and say that there's every reason for us to explain our favorite sci fi serieses and why we like them... but... argh. Come on, work with me.

To hell with sci fi, lets talk about something interesting...like porn. Whats you favorite porno? And why?

That's no more interesting than Hyper Bovine Batteltron Galaggastar. What we need to do is the original concept, but correctly.

Look:

Go buy the latest DVD of THX-1138 and watch it with commentary on. Not only is THX a very fun movie, but seeing the documentary it comes with and hearing Lucas's commentary track gives you a whole lot of insight into the motivation that drives George Lucas and the process he uses to create his films. It blows away all the stupid internet assumptions about him that fags like to parade around axiomatically. "Oh, George Lucas can't write or direct or whatever."

No, he is an excellent writer and very thoughtful, especially about elements like the nuts and bolts of cinematography and how to compose a shot for specific reasons. It will completely re-write your opinions.

I added THX to my netflix queue be here Monday. Also Added "The 4400." Anyone ever hear of it? I never heard of it....Mind you I don't have cable tv. Got tired of paying for it when I was never home so I juust watch DVD's. So nice to watch an entire season through and NO bloody commercials :D 20$ a month isn't bad and my comp is linked to my TV so I can watch the net stuff too. THX is aval for instand play, but I'll watch it with the DVD commenatary as you suggested.

Megas XLR. Little has been so genuinely funny and yet been shown on Cartoon Network. Of course, as soon as they realized they had a quality show on their hands, they canceled it after two seasons. All the various gaming references, and the fact that it has a giant robot- combine that with some REALLY stupid main characters and you've got something I enjoy.

(I know I'm late, but I just found the thread.)

An especially thought provoking film is Blade Runner. If you have not seen it, you owe it to yourself.

It's a near-future dystopian noir film that examines the human condition, and disects the class system on an allegorical level. There's a lot to be taken from it, some views easier than others.

There are three different versions floating around out there (technically 5, but you'll probably only find three you can buy) - 2 of which assert one 'possible' view of the movie, while the third - the theatrical version - supports another. In the end, I suggest watching 'The Final Cut', which was recently released. That is Ridley Scott's definite version, which adds more content to support one possible origin of the main character. It also has the best sound and video quality. and a few hours worth of extras.

Blade runner is a classic that I remeber watching back when I was like seven with my dad. Didn't know there were 5 versions, but I do have the directors cut. Very good movie. And for it's time great special effects.

Final Fanatacy: The Spirits Within and Advent Children were very good aswell. The CGI along with the story, just breathtaken. Appleseed: Ex Machina was great too. My girlfriend even liked them and when my sister borrowed them, asked if I had more movies like them. Wish I knew of more. Appleseed: Ex Machina is good but it runs in japanise with english subs and it's hard to watch the action and read the dialogue.

That THX movie... I could never got past the 30 min mark with that...and with directorts commentary it wasn't any easier.
