That's for a full sized fleet carrier and one must note that that was during a time when the Kilrathi had destroyed an unknown amount of Confed's production... light carriers or escort carriers can be thrown off the assembly lines much more quickly, in any case.

most (?) of the escort carriers were converted transports. since the hull was allready finished, it would take less shipyard time to convert it to a carrier.

Dream carrier???

The Midway, updated with 2 Cerberus type plasma guns (for engaging cap ships ONLY!!! not fighters!!). With the same fighter load-out as in WCP but with the Vamps, Wasps, Shrikes, Panthers and Devastators upgraded to Black Ops varients. Also i'd replace that god-awful piranaha (sp?) with the Dragon (updated with SO guns of couse) :D

Add to that all my bells and whistles from the Dreadnought + trillion credits thread (fluffy dice, chrome painted, kick-ass stero system) and there's my perfect carrier! :D

so you would replace a relitivly cheap fighter that is suited to its role with a superheavy fighter (a few of which are going to cost more than your carrier) that is not suited for the role?

Perhaps, I see your point.....maybe it would just be better to upgrade the load-out options for the Piranaha...:)

Omega

Let's get back to Omega project for a second.

IIRC, I read something about it in fan fiction ( Star Wars meets Wing Commander, somewhere on Vondoom's site). It is stated that Omega is a rafined version of Behemoth, capable to cloak, destroy anything ranging from a capship to a planet, to carry 40 fighters ( like a cruiser ), and it is the best thing the Black Projects ever developed. They were supposed to be used to retaliate possible destruction of Earth, something like humanity's final finger flipping.
So, is this canon or what?

Anything NeoDevilBane has ever said is vanilla to canon's chocolate.

Really, really bad vanilla.

With a low IQ.

And poison in it.

So, there is no Omega supership/supercruiser/superwhatever?

Ouch ,LOAF, what did he do to piss you off like that? Well, if I may ask?

Certainly cheaper. :) For my part, I think it would suffice to increase the Piranha's gun pool or recharge rate, if that's possible.

Amen to that... a bit more gun energy, and some better cannons (tachyons, or maybe those SO panther cannons which I can't remember the name :)) would make the Piranha a great dogfighter, IMHO. Oh, and some better missiles wouldn't hurt either... LRIRs or trackers.

Increasing the firepower requires an increased power generator, and consequently greater mass, which would be accompanied by a decreased speed and manouvreability, neither of which are desireable for the Piranha.

Remembering that the Piranha is a light scout, I would be tempted to rip OUT the energy weapons, divert the power to my shields, and install a second Stormfire cannon. That gives me a firepower almost equal to a Panther, without the short-term energy limitations (albeit with long-term ammo limitations). If I run up against anything that can survive 800 rounds of Stormfire ammo and 6 missiles, I really shouldn't be hanging around in something as flimsy as a Piranha.

double the ammunition for the stormfire and have an autofire mode for it (like the mig-29 gun) so it will automatically fire a burst when most likly to hit. and replace some of the missiles with a couple of those seeker rocket packs. those were very helpful in keeping enemy fighters occupied.

The canon, as set forth in Fleet Action, is that the Omega is a “dreadnought-class battleship” with stealth attributes and a rumored super-weapon.

i would like to fly abord a stealth carrier. i would love missions where you spend more time trying not to be dectected while trying to complete your mission.
behind enemy lines and that sorta stuff.

Err, no that's not what I want. :) As Skybolt pointed out, that would completely alter the Piranha. I think the Piranha's speed, agility, protection and weapons loadout was aedeqaute, only that the Ion guns drained too much energy for the gun pool/the recharge rate.

BTW: The cool SOPS Panther guns: You mean the Cloudburst, the heavy hitting ones? Because the other type, the Chain Ion is the stupidiest gun ever in the WC universe, IMHO.

I like the Stormfire Mk2 very much but I have to admit that ships with good shields/shield recharge rate were hard to knock down only with the stormfire (Manta e.g.). Once the shields were down, though it was like going through butter. :)
And as WCP handles the refire rates a bit strangely, installing a 2nd Stormfire would decrease the rate of fire for both Stormfires thus negating one of their main advantages.

And I have to say that the idea of a big stealth ship does not appeal to me. Small corvettes yes, but dreadnoughts or carriers? Nah...

i didn't say it had to be big. i ment carrier in the broadest sense of the term. to some extent, any ship that carries combat fighters or bombers is a carrier.
(though if they did that, they should not make it so a tiny ship dosn't have about a billion spare fighters. if the wingperson looses too many ships they should be grounded until a fighter is found for them.)
