Dreadnaught Flight-deck

Marc

Commodore
Yeah, I know, I'm getting a little old with this flight-deck stuff. sorry.
But I'm not gonna stop any time soon. so... sorry some more.

Anyway, I'm constantly doing research and trying new stuff on the Tarawa's FD(flight-deck), improving details, adding new things, adjusting colors... And as a way of doing that, I sometimes model existing game FD to get the feal of it. Lately, I've been trying to make Tarawa's FD feal more WC2 cartoon-ish. To do that, I've modeled the only FD we see in the game. ...so it's done. Anyone wanna see?

One thing about this FD, there's a serious lack of doors...

Another thing is the numbered squares on the deck. For a long time, I thought there where four of them. But I reviewed some reference material provided by a kind spirit, and to the best of my knowlege, square number one just isn't there...

This is Concordia, right?

Regarding the numbered squares, they're awfully close to the runways. Could they be a place for the ready alert fighters?

What about the platforms in the back corners (one has two Ferrets on it)? Could they be elevators to a lower deck?

I have the eqipment to film stuff and use a green screen cut it out and use it on a CGI set.. I would LOVE to play with concy's bridge for instance.

The entire flight deck seemed somewhat compact to me. They all seemed jammed in there... I have a hard time believing the Concordia could conduct flight ops as efficiently as say the actual Concordia or bengal classes.

I get the impression Concordia was designed as a dreadnought first and a carrier second, and she became primarily a carrier only after the phase transit cannon was discovered to be unreliable. The flight deck seems to be a bit of an afterthought compared to other carriers, placed on top of the existing structure rather than the rest of the ship built around it.

It would seem so, but that would give all the reasons to have a conventional carrier escorting it. Still those runways seem to be offly wide if a broadsword can use them.

The bit about the phase transit cannon being unreliable is a concept people need to stop letting overly influence their thought processes. It's based on one line from the Kilrathi Saga manual saying it was discontinued in 2665 and then "corroborated" by a line in Special Operations about the cannon causing the ship to blow. But we see the cannon routinely used normally and effectively well beyond 2665, and the SO line has to do with the gun being prematurely fired. The phase transit cannon's awesome.

The ship is literally built around the phase transit cannon, so the flight deck sitting on top of the main structure makes sense. I don't follow the reasoning behind it being particularly cramped. If you account for the "runways" being exposed to space, it seems to have about as much usuable "hangar" (catapult/elevator/staging/etc) space as most other carriers.

I agree with you 100% about the PTC issue, its one I've been posting about trying to put to rest for a while now.

As for the flight deck, I agree it has as much usable space as the Tiger's Claw or a Waterloo cruiser, but something like the Victory or the Lexington definitely seems to have more usable space.

I always was under the impression that there is another whole deck beneath the one we see in the game, where most of Concordia's fighters are stored and repaired. This may be evidenced by location subtitles saying "Repair Deck" instead of "Flight Deck." The space we see may be large, but it doesn't seem quite big enough to house 120 fighters.

If the original Concordia was a class of ship, meaning there was supposed to be more than one, then why is the TCS Victory in WCIII called a Concordia class ship in the begining of the movie when Blair is re-assigned? I just recently re-played the game when I noticed that he was being re-assigned by tolwyn to the victory. Can anyone confirm my memory?
