Alternate Box Art Round-Up (November 20, 2006)

EA Replay is not the only Wing Commander game that gets slightly different box art in Europe and North America. Here's one that many of our readers may not have seen yet: the European cover design for Wing Commander IV. The cool red makes way for larger shots of Blair and Tolwyn with a Black Lance symbol looming between them. A Lance fires a different set of guns and the Banshee gets shot up less. The back side focuses on the interactive movie elements in a slightly different way and uses some different screenshots from the game.

In August we also showed you the different Privateer 2 box designs.

I knew I had the N. American version of WC IV (My dad bought it when he was in NY on a business trip),
but apparently the Privateer 2 version I bought here in Belgium is also N. American....

A lot of games seems to have cooler european box art, for some reason. Just look at that sexy Black Lance symbol and that awesome planet-eye thing!

The American Wing Commander IV box art has the symbol inside the slipcover. The slipcover (pictured here) was a late addition, IIRC, as the original design (the inside of the current box) was deemed too abstract (which is to say, it didn't focus on the fact that the game starred Star Wars' Mark Hamill...).

Yeah, my WCIV import (from the US) has a symbol of the Black Lance, and an extra cover with Blair and Tolwyn.
