Wing Commander Games and Windows XP - A Summary

In which case, once more, you need to be using VDMS to run WC3. It won't be perfect, but you can get it close.

Wing Commander Games and Windows XP - A Summary

Ace, oh yea, I got it working as well as possible I believe. I actually am done with my WC binge for the moment. I played through all of them from 1 to Prophecy and the fanmade expansions by now. But I'm still looking forward to more Prophecy conetent that is not yet released. VDMS worked...

Wing Commander Games and Windows XP - A Summary

That depends entirely if you're running Windows NT, Win 2000, or something else. If you're running XP, then you'd want the regular .exe file (being the firs one you listed.

Wing Commander Games and Windows XP - A Summary

WC3 doesn't run with dosbox. You need to use VDMS, and I'm sure you can read the documentation that comes with it to figures some if it out yourself. After that, let us know and I'm sure someone can offer more info.

    WC3 Joystick Mapping & VDMS...

I was hoping this were possible. In fact, seeing as how MPU 401 didn't need to be emulated, and my joystick being a gameport joystick and all, I figured I didn't need to emulate that either. Unfortunately, if I disable joystick emulation in VDMS, my joystick is not detected by WC3 at all...

    WC3 Joystick Mapping & VDMS...

I've done a lot of troubleshooting and still having only limited success in getting my joystick to work correctly in WC3. I am using VDMS to run WC3 in XP. I have tried both the alternate joystick routines patch, as well as the Thrustmaster joystick patch. Both have thus far yielded the same...

Electronic Arts' Sequels Questioned (August 15, 2005)

Some people did like it though, so I guess it wasn't all that bad. As far as controls, I always found that the basic controls of WC1 for SNES were sufficient. Though they could be improved upon. But getting that type of control into a decent space sim on a console would not be a bad idea I...

Electronic Arts' Sequels Questioned (August 15, 2005)

I find this discussion very interesting, so I figured I would add my thoughts :P. Regarding EA... They have been making serious forays into other sectors of the gaming industry. First they bought the NFL license and such, which made a lot of people unhappy. And then they started to acquire...

Changing Color of Space in WC3...?

That was an excellent suggestion AD. I gave it a try, but unfortunately, those settings only seem to take effect in Windows. When I get into the game, it uses it's own settings and ignores the color correction settings I specify. Oh well, it was a good thought nontheless :D.

Wing Commander Games and Windows XP - A Summary

It would appear that this option was already selected for me, but then again I'm running WC3, not KS. Edit: Well, it seems that part of the problem I was having with my joystick was the fact that I needed to install the joystick patch. I am currently trying just the regular patch and now I...

Changing Color of Space in WC3...?

Yes I'm positive. During the installation, it doesn't actually display the 3D model of the Victory for me while asking to adjust the brightness. This is the same as the gamma setting in game. Reason for why I believe it is the same is because (1) start off with the lowest setting in both...

Changing Color of Space in WC3...?

So, I guess you just can't do it :P. Oh well, it was worth a try.

Wing Commander Games and Windows XP - A Summary

As a follow up to my previous posts, I have tried numerous setting combinations with VDMS and WC3, and have not found one that works better than what I have gotten previously to work well. So here is my next issue, is it possible to get a joystick to work properly using VDMS? I'm using a...

Changing Color of Space in WC3...?

That is correct, the are three settings, also accessable in the options menu in game. I am using the lowest setting, which is also the default setting.

Changing Color of Space in WC3...?

Greetings everyone :D. This may be an odd question, but does anyone know whether it is actually possible to darken the color of the space/background in WC3? I have my monitor's brightness set to minimum, and it's still just a not so dar blue :P. I would prefer it black, but if I can't get it...

Wing Commander Games and Windows XP - A Summary

I think I'm getting much closer...:D A few different things that helped... 1. I did not need VDMS to emulate MIDI sound as XP has the MPU 401 capability already. 2. Adlib was not necessary either, and so I disabled that as well. 3. I used the normal soundblaster settings, though I will...

Wing Commander Games and Windows XP - A Summary

Ace, I followed your suggestions of enabling EMS, Vesa, and DPMI (which was already on BTW). Unfortunately I saw no change in the playback of videos, and in game sounds (i.e. lasers) were still not audible. In other words, no change from how the game ran previously. Any other suggestions...

Wing Commander Games and Windows XP - A Summary

I see, good to know. I had read in several thread that EMS should be disabled, but I guess that information must be dated. I'll try your suggestions and see where that takes me :D. Thanks!

Wing Commander Games and Windows XP - A Summary

Wingman, you will notice that I am trying to do the same, if you read the last few posts. I actually had not trouble in installing and playing the game without any tweaks in XP. The only trouble was that the sound was scratchy and skipped all the time. So I am exploring the possiblity of...
