New user, have a few questions.

I must admit that I'm a huge fan of UltraEdit. Sadly not free (except for trial), but a brilliant editor (both normal and hex). When not using VI(M) on Linux (used to use Emacs), I use UltraEdit.

    Piracy

I thought I read somewhere that drops were determined by the cargo value in units.csv (open in spreadsheet, e.g. OpenOffice). However, all the values are blank.

    storyline...yep

Well, you go out one step further in the exploration and find something interesting... and get followed by what is sadly a slow, harmless and predictable piece-o-crap in the Remake. In the original, it was fast, deadly and unpredictable (it would show up every now and then, not just be there...

    storyline...yep

It took me 3 or 4 tries as well (as opposed to > 10x that for Ox3!!!!), but this is how I did it (Centurion - no freakin' Demons or auto-tracking here!): 1) Meet them head on and fire off your 40 proton torpedoes. There are so many ships that you should be able to kill a handful. 2) Head for...

    Privateer Remake 1.0 - Bugs

The original was like this as well - and you're not the only one who's stranded after not paying attention for a bit. Maybe a nice little "low (jump) fuel" warning would be appropriate?

    3rd Oxford Mission

I tried that a couple of times after someone posted it here (although I consider it "cheating", in the sense that docking with cap ships was not in the original and certainly wasn't meant to be done in the middle of combat), but the drayman *never* has anything to sell. I could repair the ship...

    storyline...yep

Yeah, I've tried that. Doesn't make too much of a difference IMO. It might make a bigger difference in the Demon, since it has a lower base speed and a higher afterburner speed (meaning it's more useful).

New user, have a few questions.

How much can you actually change without restarting the game? It would be very nice to be able to change some of the vegastrike.config settings (such as mouse sens) without restarting between adjustments.

    3rd Oxford Mission

Ramming damage is certainly significantly lower than in the original. Plowing full speed (1000+) into a cap ship or an asteroid was instant death in the original. In the remake, you'll probably only lose your armor. (Although I must admit that I don't understand the distribution of damage...

    storyline...yep

*COUGH* *SPLUTTER* (Ok, so I don't use Demon, auto-tracking etc, but still) Maybe we have completely different styles of play, but I found the Palan missions quite easy (difficulty level set to "hard"). The difficult part of Ox3 is not to kill the Demons (or avoid getting killed yourself)...

    Several problems

This sticky thread touches upon the subject, although it doesn't sound like the problem was completely resolved.

    storyline...yep

No, that would be the 3rd Oxford mission. ;-) Yeah, that mission is a b*tch, any way you slice it. Several threads exist on the topic, as you've no doubt noticed.

economics 101 comment on the thread

Oddly enough, salvage is generated when ships are blown up. Usually cargo ships. Go play X or X2.

    Several problems

Try searching the forum for it, I'm sure the topic has come up a few times. IIRC, the solution was to change the "Bases" setting, perhaps to filtered? Or hardware cursor?

    OK, I'm Idiot

The problem could easily be the drivers for your graphics card. Try downloading the latest.

    player effects and music?

That's not what is meant by it, AFAIK. I assume you are referring to the ability to independently change the volume for effects and music. There's no way of accessing the music-player interface of the VegaStrike engine from within the game (that I know of, anyway). If you really wanted to...

Ship testing.... a comparison - Centurion - Demon Hunter - Orion

I think you may need to complete the first campaign for that (i.e. they're not available until Righteous Fire).

    storyline...yep

Oxford, not Palan as AKAlmBatman suggested. That's later.

    Idea: Tips for new players

There was no auto-tracking in the original - and by all accounts, it will be removed in future versions of P:R. Joystick works quite well in the game. I must admit that I prefer using the mouse, but probably because I've gamed a lot with the mouse since my joystick days ;-). That said...

    3rd Oxford Mission

Ramming does next to nothing in damage in the Remake. And good luck trying to ram a Demon. They're just a *tiny* bit faster than Talons.
