To continue the WC-WW2 analogy it could be similar to the armoured decks of the british carriers. The space taken up by the doors and attendant machinery would cut down on the number of craft you can carry. Better that a bigger CAP stops the attacker rather than having to rely on armoured doors...

Because it's not much of a cloak when the enemy can spot the missile leaving the cloaking field and blanket the area with fire. Better to stop the drain of the cloaking device and have full power available for offense & defense.

I always found that aft Turret on the Triton a pain in the arse to take out, too. Reminds of a mission in Secret Ops where I'd very carefully taken out the rear turret, made my torpedo run, fired and watched a wingman fly straight into the torpedo. Cue Radar filled with red.

Well, there were a couple of times when I was playing Privateer without enough Generator power when I wanted to AB all the way to the jump point. I usually paid for it with pirates on the other end, though.

You're kidding, right? Alliance has engine wash, making ISDs much harder to take out because you can't sit in between the engines blasting away for fun.
