Wing Commander 4

Hi all!

I'm new to this board, and I've nust completed WC 4. However, I've heard that there's supposed to be 3 different endings.I've seen 2, one where Blair is an instructor and one where he takes over after Tolwyn. How do I get the final one? Does anyone happen to have it as a saved game? Would save me some trouble.

I've been reading on this board that some people hint that Blair can turn to the "dark side" later on. What does this mean? that you can re-join confed and in that case, how?

Finally, does your success/fail rate on the missions (provided they are the missions where you don't "gameover" if you lose) have any bearing on the actual story line and the development of the war?

I'd be grateful for some help. Thx!

There's 2 "winning" endings, Instructor and Admiral. The Admiral is the "dark side" one. Wheater you agree more to Hawk or Panther is what set this. There's also a "losing" ending. In all options, you do "re-join" confed, because, as far as I know, Blair gets to use a confed uniform even on the "losing" one.

Really? What is the "losing" ending like, and how do I get it? I know there is are a bunch of "game over" endings, but I am not taking these into consoderation. These include being fired by Tolwyn, being caught and executed at dawn etc... Furthermore, when you get the "instructor" enidng, Paladin says something like, "Is this what you want, not to be general or senator?" Since you can become a general, the qyestion is, can you also get a "senator" ending as well?

Ps: What about going over to the dark side? is that possible?

Fail a lot of missions...to see the towlyn one fail when you are still on the lexington, for the others fail with the UBW...

The "dark side" is simply a tongue-in-cheek Star Wars reference describing the "Admiral" (Blair's wearing a Confed Navy uniform) ending. That is the ending you get when Hawk's morale is high and Panther's is low. To get it easy, side with Hawk on every decision.

"Instructor" is the only happy ending available. There is no "senator" or "general" ending.

From what I know, the novel went for the "happy" ending.

Anyway, *SPOILER ALERT* in the "general" ending, the ayes have it, war is averted and Tolwyn is punished. However, rather than cutting to Banshees flying from the Intrepid and happy, triumphant music playing whilst Blair talks happy with Paladin and Maniac bumbles about, we see Hawk walk into Tolwyn's office in the Confed Space Force dress uniform. He informs an anonymous Navy guy (also in dress) that some rebels are picking up steam. The anonymous fellow leans forward, revealing himself to be none other than Blair! He orders Hawk to have Black Lance forces sweep them up. Th' end.

So in other words, there are only two 'proper' endings (excluding the game over endings) in which Blair doesn't die?

What happends if you fail too many Border World assignments?

There's three where he doesn't die, as far as I recall.

If you suck near the begining while you're still with Confed you get kicked out of Confed and end up back at the bar.

If you fail with the UBW you get to see a fleet lead by the Vesuvis attack the UBW...it's actually a cool ending because you do see a good chunk of the fleet...

So there is positively no way at all that one can end up on the same side as Tolwyn again? One can't make Tolwyn live in the end?

No, the writers don't allow you to be a murdering, genocidal bastard.

Or do you enjoy the thought of trillions of more deaths on top of the ones from the Kilrathi War? Tolwyn DOES live in the end, if you lose the game - it's just you don't always live through his victory, except if you end up as a drunkard by failing at the start of the game. :D

Man, I still think that's bad...If I want to bee a murderning homicidal maniac, then I should be able to be one! I played as the good guy, I would have wanted to see the other side... HAIL TOLWYN! Tolwyn was one of the good guys! He was just doing his job, he shouldn't have had to be killed for doing it....

* Spoiler warning *

Blair uses a Confed uniform on all 4 endings:

Instructor - SF Colonel Flight suit
Admiral - Navy Admiral
Lose early - SF Colonel, then civilian on a bar
Lose late - SF Colonel
