Of course it's the same game series. 'That's obvious. By your theory, any game named "Wing Commander" would generate the same level of attention, what is foolish. The original game, who is acclaimed as one of the best games of all time, is what would generate the most attention.

Try to reply to the argument that the other person actually made. I didn’t say that WC games aren’t related and it had nothing to do with my point. So why do you come here and say that obvious thing as if it proved you right?

“Hey! Anything named Wing Commander will sell exactly the same! Always! Every single Wing Commander game sold the exact same number of copies! WC1, Privateer2, WC3, Academy! Every single one of them, because as everyone knows games of the same series shares the exact same amount of media coverage, sales, and even reviews scores and awards! I'm so smart and you are not! Wing Commander 2 is the sequel to Wing Commander 1, so it proves I'm right!”

That's just not a logically valid assertion. Wing Commander 1 getting Best Game of all time in various gaming mags in no way implies that it would get more media coverage now or would sell better than other WC games. WC1 received its honors not because it was the best WC game, but because it broke new ground and was the best game among games when it was released. WC3 sold a lot more copies than WC1 and would have much more instant recognition than WC1, and so on. Privateer was also extremely popular, and garnered many more votes when the CIC asked last year what WC game people most wanted to see on the GBA after Prophecy. WC1 is by no means a shoe-in for the most media hype and sales.
You've also twice ignored the point I make that people would see Secret Ops being billed in marketing and magazines alike as a sequel to Prophecy, which many think of as the last game. This would give it just as much boost, if not more, than the nostalgic value WC1 would have.

If you really think it's a completely irrelevant factor if a game is concerned as one of the best and most influential classics of all time. I think differently, and I don't think it's such a ludicrous point of view. But hey, it's a subjective thing.

WC1 received its honors not because it was the best WC game, but because it broke new ground and was the best game among games when it was released.

WC received honors even when it was the only WC game. Even later on, after the sequels were released, it was also acclaimed as one of the best and more influent games of all time. It was confronted not only with other games released at its time, but all other afterwards.

WC3 sold a lot more copies than WC1 and would have much more instant recognition than WC1, and so on.

It's true that WC3 sold more. But you must factor in that this was due in large part to the whole "Interactive movie" thing. Not only is that now largely irrelevant on the market, but impracticable on the GBA. Without the movie, WC3 should lose a lot of its appeal.

Privateer was also extremely popular, and garnered many more votes when the CIC asked last year what WC game people most wanted to see on the GBA after Prophecy.

Very popular with fans, this kind of game has a following. "Elite" for GBA could do as well. Privateer for GBA would indeed be a great option.

I'm talking about much more media attention then WCP is receiving to begin with. WCSO had more media appeal for being distributed online for free than for anything else, even if it's a good game.

Addressing the point you specifically pointed out, I don’t think everyone would care that much to the fact that WCSO is the sequel to WCP. What makes WCSO the last WC game is because EA gave up on the series due to lack of interest. It isn’t much of a finale, it isn’t even a conclusion, and leaves the new storyline in the middle.

Because WC1 is a much simpler game, it can be delivered on the GBA to it's fullest potential, while some of the stuff on other games like WC3 and WCP might have to be stripped down. So while you could play WC1 on GBA on all its glory, you still have to get a PC to do the same with WCP or WC3.

I am going to have to disagree with you there, mein freund.

While tis true that WC3's major appeal initially was the "interactive movie" aspect, on its own, beneath the "Hollywood flash and bang" is- what I consider- the best Wing Commander game. The majority of my friends who aren't WC fans hail WC3 as one of their favorite games (I say majority because of the one who says the same but for WC4).

A lot of the people I know who are WC fans place WC3 at the top, as well. How do I know it's not just the "interactive movie?" The most common thing I hear from people who've played the game (especially the non-WC fans) is "I just skip the movies so I can go straight to the playing."

Wing Commander III has some of the best and most intense missions in the whole series! The plot is also one of the best, as it places you into a dire, losing scenario. The prospect of turning things around and saving humanity is quite a feat... and a fun one, at that!

If WC3 were brought out for the GBA, I'm sure it would sell just as well or better than Prophecy Advance.

Yeah i agree i really liked WC III because it felt like the confederation was almost at the breaking point. As Rollins, the Victory's Comm officer put it "Fact, we go from one defensive mission to another" And thats what happens before Towlyn comes aboard to take command when the ship is to escort the behemoth.

The TCN infobursts really help to convey the sense of being on the losing, or at least not winning side. The information would be about the Granita system pursuing a separate peace with the Kilrathi, or a heard stories about other systems being virus bombed. Everything in the game really gave you the sense that things were not going well for the Confederation, and your back was against the wall.

In my opinion, WC III is the best, beacause it had the most interesting story. Although WC IV is a close second.

Yeah, so they should do it that way. Two to the front, two to the side, it's the WC tango! WCP, WCSO, WC3, WC4, WC1, WC2. It will make the storyline much easier to understand for people that like reading stuff backwards. :D

No, i think they should start with WC 1 next. Thats the way i voted. I was just agreeing with Col.Dom that in my opinion WC III was the best, and not just because of the interactive movies. But i think the game did a really good job of setting the mood, or tone, of how the battle against the kilrathi was going.

Non of that I want a real WC game for the PC again...not this toy ****

Sorry for my behavior, but I realy don't like the GB or other consoles.

Uhhh... why? The PS2 is the worst console currently available. Not only is it apparently more difficult to write games for it than for the other consoles, but its specs are really poor as well. If there would be a game for something more advanced than the GBA, it should either be the PC or the Xbox. Both, preferably.

I may be a PS2 man, myself but Quarto's correct. The PS2 is the inferior of the three consoles out, right now. If a new Wing Commander game were to be released for any of the three consoles, it most logically would be released on the XBox, given its close ties to the PC market. Plus, the XBox is insanely powerful.

There's no need to apologize. You can even say 'shit' on the board if you want to.

But can you shorten your signature to 4 lines or less, in line with Usenet netiquette? And yes, empty lines do count.

Well, don't feel like getting into an argument about what retro-gaming really is or who prefers what console over another, so back to the topic...

I'd like to see Privateer first for selfish reasons, but I think it'd be pretty cool to start with a WC1+WC2 combo. These game cartridges are large enough to put them both in completely. I also don't see a problem with them jumping around in the order of the series, but for completeness sakes starting with WC1 might help more people to get into the series easier.

Oh how I wish that were true. Among us fans it would be quite the rage I'm sure, but outside of this board I have never met anyone else in person that has been obsessed with the Wing Commander series. In fact I don't think I've ever met anyone who actually knows and understands what it is.... :(
