In the Wing Commander universe, a number of events took place that set back the war effort considerably or brought the Confederation to the brink of destruction. Other events caused devastation on a much more local scale. Our new poll asks which disaster you think is the worst.

According to our previous poll, many of our visitors have been around for five years or more. A good few have been keeping up with Wing Commander news for nearly a decade. We still pick up new people all the time and 2004 was our busiest year yet. Thanks for visiting!

How long have you been visiting the CIC?

1 Year or less (2004): 15.07%

2 Years (2003): 12.71%

3 Years (2002): 9.72%

4 Years (2001): 12.08%

5 Years (2000): 13.06%

6 Years (1999): 13.26%

Since CIC Grand Opening (1998): 10.35%

Since WCHS (1996): 13.75%

Total Votes: 1440

Has to be the Fleet Action Strontium attacks because they wiped out fully populated and industrialized worlds, making them completely uninhabitable.

McAuliffe: Rebuilt and continued to be used as a major base of operations.

Goddard: A show of force which pissed us off enough to track down the Sivar and steal its technology for our own use.

Locanda: Didn't really change the course of the war (and is even preventable in the game).

Behemoth: We got the job done anyway.

GenSelect attack: A great debate winner.

Love life: Better to have loved and lost.....blah blah blah

Intentional 9/11 posting?

I think everyone has it all backwards!
THE biggest disaster in the Terran/Kilrahti war was the acceptance of the false peace offered by Kilrah in 2668. The Inner World Strontium Bursts is just a result of that disaster.

repleetah incident with the marines, maybe not the most numbers, but a horrid fight.

Hey, what if it's one of the thousands of things not listed on the poll? It'll be clever to point that out, right? People will like it if I say that, right?

Oh, wow, really?

How about the destruction of the Pegasus station, and the Kilrathi acquiring the Navcom?

We got it back pretty quickly, and we managed to stop the fleet pretty solidly, so that's not much more of a disaster than any large starbase going down.

i think the sadest thing is blairs love life: Angel died, Rachel was a bad choose (well, im not sure what the authors or game says about the marriage, but whatever), something like that....

As per the WC4 novelization, Rachel dumped Blair after the two were on Nephele for a while (the part of the novel that covers the scene in which this is revealed is included as a snippet in the game documentation).

I'm actually not familiar with this Inner World Strontium Bursts. Could someone explain that to me? I voted for the Telemon tragedy by the way.

They're the events of the second half of Fleet Action.

As the pendulum of war swings toward the Terrans, a peace accord is unexpectedly offered by Kilrah. All fleets are withdrawn, even those in the midst of combat. In the following months, several frontier colonies refuse to abide by the armistice rulings, investing both forces and ships in an attempt to search out suspected active shipyards on the far side of the Kilrathi Empire. Using captured stealth equipment, private forces intercept a HoloVid of the rumoured facility along with a message that Kilrathi forces are embarking to attack Earth. The armistice is renounced, and a hastily assembled force of still intact Confederation ships prepare to defend against the attack, bolstered by private ships and carriers.

The first hits result in total radiation-warhead destruction of Warsaw, Gilead and Sirius Prime. Front line Marines land on the Imperial flagship carrier where a few brave volunteers place mines in suicide missions. The volunteers destroy three of the super carriers, but the remainder of the fleet reaches striking distance. The Kilrathi successfully launch anti-matter rockets on crucial defence cities - Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston, Miami, Quebec, Berlin, Paris, Kiev and others - then retreat to friendlier space.

Specifically the Warsaw, Gilead and Sirius Prime bits, but more generally, the entire vulnerability created by the false peace armistice.

The Locanda stuff also isn't limited to Locanda. I believe Trafalgar and Delius were also hit with the bioweapons at the same time.
