Things you'd like to see in Star Citizen

So I'm just curious here - any particular reason the SAR Bird is an NPC and not another one of your buddies?

One thing I would REALLY like to see is to make some of the support craft flyable - like the SWACs or the SAR Birds. Darting into a combat engagement in an unarmed or lightly armed shuttle to pluck a pilot out of space sounds like fun to me.
Only reason I said NPC SAR was because I didn't know how many people would find it fun to pick up an ejected pilot, or play the support role on a combat situation.

And another one to my wishlist: An easily modifiable campaign setup for multiple players to participate. Like an old fashioned DnD game amongst friends or even shorter campaigns to get people to play together, and then those new people join up for the longer campaigns. "Dungeon Master" creates a campaign, and uploads it to a site for someone to download and host. Campaigns can vary from stories of epic proportions, a few small missions with random variables to change the missions as they're played and repeated, or maybe even a campaign that has one mission that is never ending and used for Roleplaying.

Well if you're already dumping merchant ships into the game that are based on carrying cargo, how much of a stretch is it to give them a tractor beam to pick up an ejected pilot?

In addition to that there are all kinds of other things you can offload to the transport though, like mobile refueling - turn your transport into a gas station and charge credits for every litre of gas you pump out to the other players.

Or a missile carrier - where your transport flies into combat loaded for bear but the fighters are actually controlling the launch of your missiles so you come in with 20 missiles and the fighters all get to ripple fire them at the oncoming wave.

Allegiance had a Gunship that was essentially the same ship as the bomber without the torpedoes, with the advantage here being that you have all the same turrets to use on a single ship.

There are a number of ways to make this both exciting and invigorating for the player.

I played a Falcon 4.0 build recently that had the option to output mission setup as HTML so you could automatically upload it to your website for other pilots to download and use. Something like this would be excellent - build a strike package and operation in an external program, save off the XML. Upload it to your 'squadron' (for lack of a better term) web server for the other pilots to download a head of time, or even let them download it from you in live time (it's only XML) out of the game client.

But also some sort of on-the-fly game creation ala Never Winter Nights. Spawn a capital ship w/fighter escorts HERE for the players to fight. All though, it would be cool enough if the system was setup ala Left 4 Dead 2 and just detected where the players were and what they were doing on their mission and spawned stuff in their path to stop them.

I'm not really much of an online gamer for several reasons (getting involved with communities make me feel obligated to play, I'm not competitive at all so PvP stuff makes me cringe) so all I'm really hoping for is a deep and fully fleshed out single player experience. Given what we've heard so far I don't think that's going to be an issue.

I feel quite the same way, though for something special like this, I'm willing to give it a try. And I don't think all of the multi-player aspect is supposed to be competitive - I think there's mention of co-operative game-play too.

I can agree with this...BUT! I once found a rack of 10$ games at Office Depot that had five copies of Starlancer, so I bought them all...and then went out and bought joysticks for all my friends and we had a massive LAN Party one weekend where we played through the entire Starlancer campaign cooperatively, twice!

My friends are not normally Space flight gamers, but they got on board with this one for some reason and we had a blast playing that way all weekend. I am not usually one for playing First Person Shooters, but I do play Left 4 Dead, Payday: The Heist and both Operation Flashpoint games, specifically because the co-operative campaign play in those games is so much fun with other people.

For my part I'm just praying desperately that there is finally a space sim on the market with decent Multiple Monitor support. I jumped through all kinds of crazy hoops this weekend to get a mock cockpitish setup on my desk to play Falcon 4.0. It was two days of fiddling and tweaking and adjusting just so I could play a bit today, and I would love it if a game for once would just naturally support it and make it easy for me.

And then you can sell your friends on the free market as slaves!

Yup, the Squadron 42 campaign is playable both in offline single player and coop.

I m not too much into that MMO thing. I am quite happy if the game delivers a sold singleplayer experience. But as it will have a big online component, i hope that its going to be a player defined world, not a world that purely is defined by its adventuring content. I played some of the very early (M)MOs that realy hadnt that much content to it but were very much driven by the interactions of its player base - it didnt need comunity events, the comunity created that by pure roleplaying based on the game mechanics. World + game logic + players = content. Id much rather go with less pronounced content or content that is replicated to a certain part but with a solid system that enables players to interact with that world and the rest of its inhabitants, than extremly refined instances that get boring after playing through them the second time.

Most important thing is to have self replicating abilities within the world. Acting against and/or in cooperation with players and player groups is much more rewarding than getting pushed into predefined situations in such games.

So for it to work there need to be systems that players can compete in and that feel natural to the game. One thing definitly is the trading system, that hopefully can be affected by pirates/factions and so on. Second system that would fit would be some kind of influence/political system based around planets and bases (vying for government contracts or posts with added incentives, or control of some goods is a nice motivator for player groups to compete for). And from what I gather Star Citizen will see some kind of "Dungeon Master" sysem, which should give those RSI employees the capability to react to player actions. "Player pirate group blockading a system", "send in a carrier group to hunt them down" - creating slots for other players to participate.

Something I am now officially looking forward to in game since the Bengal Class carrier was unlocked: Mercenary work, mobile base, using that carrier... limitless possibilities.

I have had a story idea I've wanted to write for years, and now that the Bengal class carreir is unlocked and usable, I can create it in this game. When this comes out, I'll be spending as long as it takes to get my mercenary team White Knights together, complete with a carrier pilot, figher pilots, bomber pilots, and so on. I was excited before, but now I'm counting down days and checking daily for a predicted release date.

What I look most forward to is freedom and immersion and I want as much of those two things as possible in SC. And surprise element is important as well.

1) I want new jump points (wormholes) and systems discovery and exploration to be really well thought out and implemented in game. I want to be able to fly anywhere in the system and A-key to be used only when I want to save time (plotting the course to my navigation computer). I want an entrance/jump to the undiscovered system(s) to be really challenging to be found. I want also jumping itself (at least the pioneer one) to be a challenge (player skill at maneuvering through some corridor or something) not a simple animation or loading screen
2) I want a high degree of "realism" in ship design, but this seems to be granted already (judging from already released ship designs, descriptions etc.)
3) I want player made missions which can be performed by other players
4) I want it to be possible to ambush player and NPC ships on frequent spacelanes if I will be using proper equipment
5) I want the universe to live and constantly evolve and be shaped by community:
a) New systems being discovered by and (partially) named after players being added to space charts
b) Players with largest amount of PvP kills be branded as either anathemas (when pirates) or national heroes (when serving law) in galactic newspapers (issues once a week) and then bounties being set on them by the opposite site (NPC)
c) Natural disasters (famine, pandemia, volcanic erruption, planetary wars, solar flares, asteroid hit etc.) causing calamities which could be profited on by quick and resourceful merchants. The merchants doing the best deals getting their name to te Galactic Economic Journal and maybe even (if player decides to get "in character") an interview will be published.
d) Space wars (UEE vs. Vanduul) developing into this or that result in time. Based on this development star systems' (in some boundaries, of course) ownership being switched back and forth between the races. Old wars ending in vicotry or ceasfire and being immediately replaced by other wars with different enemies (Xi'an?).
e) new types of slightly better versions of weapons, ships and other equipment being slowly introduced to the market while older ones becoming more and more obsolete yet even more cheap till they stop being produced (and sold in NPC shops) at all
6) I want to be able to find planetary rings where I will discover a hidden pirate trading station, various strange

...and many other things, but basically in the same category as the stuff above.

One wonders if there might be a WC CIC community carrier... y'know, just for those of us that hang out here. This was mentioned in a thread in the early days of the pledge drive as a pie in the sky idea; I can't believe it actually looks not just possible, but probable!

I've been thinking about something along the same lines. Maybe not just ONE carrier for us Wingnuts but maybe a couple? Like a small flotilla.

Wishful thinking, I'm sure.

I'm sure that if they offered one Bengal with lifetime insurance for $10.000 someone would have bought it.
But it was said it will be possible to buy/get one in game - I suppose it will just be nigh impossible to capture or will cost gazillion of credits.

I agree. I think it should be a reward for big guilds, squadrons, corps or whatever they'll call organized groups of players.
