Stuff that Looks Like Things

well, Origin/Ea's secret special headquarters is ACTUALLY located in Germany, don't ya' know? :)

You mean, it's a conspiracy? :)

But anyway, anybody who hasn't played Martian Dreams oughta try and hunt it down. It's probably about as rare as KSaga (but worth a lot less money ;)), but it's worth searching for it. Personally, I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than the mainstream Ultimas. The whole game feels like a Jules Verne book.

how do you know, I just now replied :)

seriously though, I don't think I'd get too exited about it, I mean, okay, so we're not alone, it's not like I believed other-wise beforehand...

But isn't there a huge difference between believing an knowing?
I would be pretty excited...

Folks...space exploration should be ACCELERATED! Don't know about you, but I'm hoping theres some conspiracy where they've been building space battlecruisers and carriers on the far side of the moon to combat the alien menace...

That way at least I can try to get the chance to fly in space in my lifetime!

Mars Face

The Cydonia region also has a massive pyramid shape as well as what looks like a city with square and rectangular mounds set parallel to each other sort of like streets in a modern city. IIRC the during the '80s the Russians attempted quite a few mission to Mars a few of them failed. What is interesting is the one's that failed were intended to study the Cydonia region with High-Res optics, Infared etc. There was one that rocket that actually exploded on the launch pad.

On a similar note NASA has had a satallite orbiting the moon for the last few years (called the Lunar Prospector?)
it is supposed to be using high accurate laser to survey the topography of the moon. Have they ever published pictures of what was found?

If they had a Lunar Prospector (not that I doubt you, it's just that I can't remember anything about it), I'm sure they published the pictures... and nobody cared, since it's just gray rock :).
As for Mars, the Russians are quite capable of failing (and rockets are quite capable of blowing up on the launch pad) without the help of aliens. Now come on, I'm sure there's plenty of rocks that look like stuff in Cydonia, but must we suspect aliens for every funny rock we find? Why not blame them for the Horsehead Nebula while you're at it? :)

RFBurns, NASA has taken photos of Cydonia and that so-called face at every opportunity. How many missions to Mars were there? Five? Six? You've got photos from three different missions, and you talk about NASA not wanting to explore Cydonia?
Even that CNN article linked to by TyeDyeBoy points out that NASA would dearly love to explore Cydonia - because it's a place with... very interesting rocks. Possibly it bordered with an ancient ocean. But an area filled with rocky mesas, I would imagine, does not make a very good landing site.

Oh, and proposing an international space station is a really, really great way of keeping others out of space, I would say.
Furthermore, there really isn't much NASA can do on its tiny budget. Why don't you look up the costs of the Apollo program? $260 billion for NASA is like you trying to make a living on $30 per week. You can do that - but you won't be going overseas any time soon...
All in all, if you want life on Mars, go play Ultima Worlds of Adventure 2: Martian Dreams. Trust me, you'll enjoy it... it's one of the best Ultima games around....

Hahaha! Heres one for ya, if NASA was so interested in Cydonia, why did they land the Pathfinder rover more than 2,000 miles away from Cydonia? Hummm?.....They had every opportunity to land at Cydonia with that thing, but didnt, what did they do, land at some pit with...drum roll please....ROCKS! Yep, doesnt look like them rocks changed since 1976 when Viking landed and probed the rocks. Boy, by the time we get to the year 2657, we will know more than any speicies in the universe about rocks! Perhaps we can even make rock ships and take on cats in space!

But... NASA isn't interested in Cydonia... crazy stupid internet people are... NASA did take a lot of pictures, though, which proved that Cydonia is full of rocks... just like the rest of Mars.

I mean, how many probes have landed on Mars? Four? Less? How much of Earth do you think could be explored with that few landings?

I use to be a member of the Planetary Society and lemme tell you that NASA has a tough enough time getting into space as it is than going to every damned crevice in the known system looking for evidence that every nut-case conspiracy theorist thinks is The Truth about other forms of life whether it be Carbon, Silicon, Amonia-based, whatever.

Be thankful that we have NASA. It's better than nothing...

You know what is really crazy?...a weather sattelite can take far cleaner pictures from 22,000 miles up, without fancy photo cleanup, but the photos from the Surveyor are rather fuzzy.

Right now, the Earth is being mapped by new sattelites launched a few years ago. They are to make new maps for the weather service and the military.

A few weeks ago I mentioned about NASA's weak pace in space activities. That is my primary gripe, that NASA is really dragging its feet with space exploration. Other than probes, our space program is nothing more than a trucking company hauling comm sats and military sats into orbit. The original plan back in the late 60's was that by 2000, we would have regular shuttle flights back and forth from the moon, and from a space station, providing the public with space tours. We dont have that, but it is slowly going to become a reality. NASA is finally looking at public tours of space, but what is up there thats worth visiting? Nothing at the moment. But if you take a detailed look at what was promised and what is there today, you might see why there are alot of folks, and not just internet people, rasing hell with NASA and its policies.

Recently, with the new administration and head dog at NASA, things are changing. The recent photos of Mars is one example of the changes. Those photos were taken in 1998, and just released less than a month ago. It may be that we now have the right people in NASA to move things forward. But everyone should realize, that the movement to have NASA speed up its space activities and to investigate the Cydonia site on Mars has been going on since the 1976 Viking photos were published! Its not a recent thing with "internet" people. If you look at all the information, you will find the fight for public access to space has been going on since that time, and even earlier than 1976. The reason why it seems like just a recent thing, is because of the internet. Before the net, the public only had the media and newspaper or books to find the new information NASA would release. And with the Freedom of Information Act of 1989, combining the internet, that information is more readily available and it becomes available much faster. So NASA isnt all that bad, but look at some of the information on those various sites linked from the enterprise mission site, lots of finger pointing, but also, alot of information on why they are going so slow, the Brookings report of 1959 clearly states the need for "conditioning" for fear of the "War of the Worlds" syndrome, something the NASA and government officials were afraid of prior to the Mercury program. Also look closely to Sen. John Glenn's appearance on the show Frasier. He admitted on the show that they were instructed to remain silent, totally out of the context of the show! It was Glenn who approached the Frasier show people to do that particular show!

Some strange stuff.
