question: Super Wing Commander

Plasteel Skull

Rear Admiral
Guys, recently while I was browsing old wcnews posts I've found one about game named Super Wing Commander, which -- according to the description -- was Wing Commander I remake, containing all game's datadiscs (+ one extra), made for some game console (other than PC). The only available info was dealing about PC playable demo, screenshots and maybe some cutscenes from this game and I was very impressed. I searched google , but it returns me back to wcnews. My questions are:
- is it possible to download full PC version of this game
- in news discussion some guys had problems with installation and making the game work properly. IF this game is available, let me know how to install and configure this stuff on Windows XP SP2, 1 GB RAM and AMD 3200+.
Thanks for help in advance!

Super Wing Commander isn't a remake. It's actually for 3DO. However, you can buy it on ebay and try to use an emulator to run it on your PC.

Super Wing Commander is the original Wing Commander, The Secret Missions and an extra set of missions -- it doesn't include the Crusade scenario. The graphics have been updated to be about the same level as Privateer, and it features full speech and a few other touches (the story is altered somewhat, adding some talk about WC2 elements like stealth fighters). It was developed for the 3DO and later ported to the Macintosh.

No, there is no PC version of Super Wing Commander. Also, it is illegal to download any version of Wing Commander.

To the best of my knowledge, no one has come up with a reliable 3DO or PowerMac emulator capable of playing Super Wing Commander properly. If you're interested in the game, either of those systems are fairly cheap and easy to come by these days.

Yeah the system requirements for SWC are quite low. I'm not sure what is cheaper though, an old 3DO or a old Mac. It should still be inexpensive to get a system up and running though.

Maybe not, but at least it works, after what I've read.:)

Isn't that strange? At Amazon.com website (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BTYR86/ref=olp_product_details/002-8938935-5065623?ie=UTF8) they are saying that SWC's platform is Win 95 (if this was true, MS application compatibility toolkit would probably take care of this issue on Win XP). Yet when we enlarge game box pic we can clearly see there's 3DO logo on it (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/im...8938935-5065623?ie=UTF8&n=468642&s=videogames) - a clear sign, I guess, it is not a PC game whatsoever. This is quite confusing. Or maybe I am not aware of some simple facts - like the one that 3DO games were portable to Windows 95 somehow. But I don't think so.

I'm pretty sure it's just that Amazon doesn't have a '3DO' option for their zshops (or the seller just has no idea). There's no secret way to play Super Wing Commander in Win9x.
