Prophecy Gets Even More Resolutions (March 5, 2006)

Mr. Kat
Not satisfied with accomplishing the impossible by integrating multiplayer in to Prophecy, HCl has simultaneously been working on the latest version of his high res patch for Prophecy. Aside from fixing bugs from previous versions, the new patch also includes support for widescreen resolutions. As can be expected, it looks incredible. We've included a full size 1MB, 1680x1050 resolution version of the first screenshot below here, since the smaller version linked below just doesn't do it justice. The new version of the patch should be finished in about a month, just in time for the release of the multiplayer patch.

Will the patch fix that annoying cross on lens flares (still evident in the 3rd picture?) or is this something beyond HCl's control?

The lense flare texture offset problem is on HCl's "to-do" list, but he haven't fixed it yet. Could be done in time for the first MP version, or a later release, or never ! :p All we know is it's on his "to-do" list.

Being that I'm the proud new owner of two dell FP2005s, I like this very much. Nice to have a widescreen native resolution.

Man You are one BusY guy. And I have to say we’re ALL grateful for it. You’ve breathed new life back in to WC games several time now.

One problem I noticed when I was trying to use your highres patch for pictures to use in my SOGuide project was that it moved the text to far down that it tended to cover the parts of the pictures. Will the positioning of the test be corrected in respect to the resolution that’s used?

I was also wondering whether the HUD could/would be redone so it doesn’t look so small at high resolutions.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

I'm not sure how much HCl keeps up with some of these threads. You might want to email him.

I do try to keep track of these threads, but i somehow missed this one, sorry.

Thanks, glad you're enjoying my work :) I do not understand the problem you are describing tho. Do you mean text covers other elements of the cockpit? What resolution were you using at the time?

I don't recall noticing any problems in the cockpits (other than the oval in Glide mode, fixed now), but i'll be sure to run a few more tests. Also, do you get the same problem both in WCP and WCSO? The way the cockpits were adjusted is slightly different.

I was also wondering whether the HUD could/would be redone so it doesn’t look so small at high resolutions.

Yeah that's on my "to-do" list, along with the lens flare fix and other improvements. However, it most likely won't be done in time for the April release, since i'll be concentrating my efforts on the MP patch right on the next few weeks.

Thanks HCI. I’m extremely happy to hear about the HUD being on the “to-do” list. I’ve been looking forward to that for a long time.
The problem I’m talking about is the when you turn on the subtitles. As the resolution increases the text moves further and further towards the center of the page covering up the game graphics. I was using WCSO and had a voodoo 5500. Don’t know if that makes a difference. I love that card for this game. Probably the same thing but when you use one of the function keys (I don’t remember which one.) to see the other ships out there it shows their name but this too seems to move further down as well and sometimes cover the ship your looking at. These probably aren’t a big issue for most people but it was for me when I was trying to take screen shots for the SOGuide.
I hope this makes more sense.
Thanks,
Shades
