Please Try Original Campaign

Hey folks,
So far in the beta testing cycle only 2 or 3 people have played the campaign, and I'm worried it has quirks we have not yet worked out.

So if some bold beta tester here has some time, I would really appreciate it if you would try playing through the original campaign.

FYI, the campaign starts in the New Detroit system, where you have to talk to Sandoval. I don't want to spoil any more of it, but it's important that more people, especially those with fond memories of the campaign, try it before we release 1.0.

Thanks folks :)
And enjoy hauling brilliance through confed space ;-)

Yes...it does. The manual alluded to it by mentioning that you could talk to Sandoval in New Detroit... but then it warned that fixers don't always pay up. So I refused to do the mission for literally years because I thought he would not pay me.
Of course as soon as you talk to him, the bigger picture starts to develop.

You can play it in the remake or in the original--they are equivalent and use the same dialog :)

I found a bug

On completing the 2nd cargo run for Tayla to the Hector station in Troy I went to the bar to get the next assignment from her. Allthough she was there I was not able to initiate the dialogue for the next mission.

Can't confirm.. tried running the mission to Hector, and when I got back to pentonville, I was able to take the next mission. Completed that and took the next mission as well.

However, directions did not appear after the Hector run, and I wasn't able to talk to her again after accepting the next two missions. Something is off, I'll try to track it down.

please send stdout.txt and stderr.txt when you go to the bar...it could be my fault.
privater *atsign* gmail.com
thanks!
(that's 1 e)

fixed.. it was my fault. (at least my problem is fixed)

I left out three paramaters on the ambush mission there. they weren't passed at all before we added directions, and I forgot to add ,'','','' after the parameters that were passed before tacking on the directions.

Try placing this file in privateer/modules (overwriting the one that is there) and try to take the mission over again. If you need to, go back and take the Hector mission again. At any rate, the next one should now work. If it doesn't do as HellcatV asks and send your stdout.txt and stderr.txt after getting to the bar ;)

I'm not sure mamiya0taru's fix fixes your problem.
I also need your savegame at the base where you can talk to tayla
your savegame is located in .privateer/save/yoursavegamename

thanks!

As far as I can tell it should work (wihtout directions) if you can talk to her

one reason you couldn't talk to her is if you have less than 25 available free cargo---bercause that's how many cargo the mission requires--- check if that's the case too :) we should perhaps add some sort of explanation---or reduce the ammt needed

It looks like you bought some cargo before talking to her...cus that's what happens to me...
I'll reduce the cargo requirement...maybe put a note in the manual about the problem.

you need to have 25 space free in your ship to take that mission until further notice.

Hope this helps -- if it does not, then send me your bin/stderr.txt bin/stdout.txt and .privateer/save/savegamename

That has to be it..

To clarify, if you don't have enough cargo space for the next mission when you land (or load) Tayla will not show up. If you have room, she does. If after landing you buy cargo so you no longer have room for the mission, she does not disappear, but you cannot click on her.

So the bug I found was unrelated.. it was a lucky thing you ran into this on that particular mission or I might not have noticed how I had borked it :D

So, anyone trying the campaign, please used the fixed file I linked to earlier. Place in privateer\modules, and you are good to go.

Sorry about that I forgot to return to the pirate base

You meet the same people in the bars... like sandoval... and complete their missions...
All you know is that you've found an artifact...but you don't know what it's for

"hint: check original privateer for script, but don't spoil it for newbies"

sure thing i will not share the old script, i'm now saving some money to finish this... maybe in a week or so i'll be done

I think there's a problem with the second Oxford mission, the one where you go after the Black Rhombus. When I found it, it was surrounded by several Galaxy ships, all yellow on my radar, and they all ignored me when I attacked the Rhombus. I'm pretty sure it had an escort in the original. The galaxies behaved like merchants and had merchant comms, but were in the Shadow group, and just made a beeline for Oxford.

Also, the plot ambushes (the last couple Roman Lynch missions, for example) don't seem to work very well. The ships trying to ambush me always start very, very far away, around 50000-70000 units (meters, whatever they are), which makes it way too easy to just run to wherever and ignore them.

Another problem I had with the third Oxford mission... the first couple times I tried it, it worked ok. The demons started out yellow to me and only went after the Drayman, even when I was beating on them, but that could be acceptable. On my third try (when it occured to me to get torpedoes to kill them faster), they completely ignored me and the drayman. I autopiloted to Oxford (and realized that escorting the Drayman there was not the mission requirement), quit the game, reloaded, and tried again. It did this three times in a row, where the hunters ignored me and the Drayman, and I eventually just taunted them so I could catch up to them and blew them up. The second wave was hostile to me, but I don't know if that was because I blew up all the previous hunters or if the mission was working properly from then on.

After completing the Oxford series, I headed to Palan, but there's no sign of the blockade. The Palan missions so far (I've only gone through the first two) work ok (except for the non-hostile hunters again), and are rather difficult thanks to the large number of torpedo-launching Demons.

I think I would've had a lot trouble with this part if I hadn't bought my Centurion. The Centurion is still awesome.
