next class of carriers?

Versitility is the key to success. Find one weakness in the Midway-class and a large part of COnfed's fleet is in danger. Plus they will need to be able to cover more space because there is just SO MANY of the bugs. Fighters have a limited range and the carrier cant be everywhere at once.

And the Bugs have the following systems....
NONE.
Bugs open a worm hole send a big fleet over it, midway fund it and close the damn thing, in SO we finish the ones that were stranded, capture the anacration device, end of story.
Bugs will open another worm hole OR send a fleet in the old way jumping across systems.

Oh yeah, the bugs just covered one system in SO and that was it. SO showed that they can enter Confed space in more than one place. How fast did they spread out once they were? Pretty darn fast. So what happens if they come in at multiple systems, and any one worm hole is left open for any period of time? We have all hell breaking loose and Confed forces stretched out too thin.

O.K.
we will all die.....
Tolwyn manage a miracle with those two Vesuvius being made in two years (using other ships to make the hulls), now how in hell will confed design, build a shipyard and build a brand new type of carrier (with those insane specs) in less that 5 years may I ask?

Production on the Midway began in 2676 -- the design is much older (she was built at the existing Trojan IV yards, shaving ten years off her development...).

We're told in the SO fiction that the Hades class has been in development for a decade.

If a trick worked once why not use it again? Besides i wasnt saying that my idea was Definitly, without a doubt, 100%, blessed and sanctified, bet your life on it guaranteed to be made. I was just giving a suggestion as too what i think would be a cool ship. Unbunch your panties.

Also, did Confed lose the war right off when the Kilrathi wiped out most of its fleet at McAuliffe? No. They managed to win some breathing space, but many Confed colonies became either front line realty or were behind enemy lines for most of the war. Confed still has those ten carriers and they aint push overs. Plus however many Vesuvius are out there. They will be able to hold on long enough to add to their fleet. That and however long they have to build before the bugs return should give them enough time to do all kinds of things.

There are currently at least two Vesuvius' (the Eisen and the McKinley) and two Midway's (Midway and Mistral Sea) in service.

So no matter how big the carriers they have are, i doubt there they have only four inactive service in all of Confed. Older ships were probably going to be retired as the newships came online but still there is a military presence out there to delay the bugs from wiping out everything.

Wouldnt it just be easier to reactivate the vesuvius or midway class construction programs to coap with the nephillim threat instead of designing new carriers, etc.

Death, how easily you forget, you at least TALKED to the characters in WC1. The plot that is derived from the website was little more than what Claw Marks or the cards for SM1 and SM2 were, just in an extended fashion.

When you talk to characters, you get a feel for the characters, the personalities and such. What feel of that is there in SO? Um, nothing!

Plots are best derived using characters to interact with. SO didn't have that much, unless you count the opening scene and a few comms. Not much of a plot per se is it?

Assuming that the Bug Invasion is over and the next WC deals with some other threat.

By 2690, Confed should have all 10 planned Midway Class built and launched. Older Concordia Class will probably have been retired by this time (considering that Confed vessels seem to only have at most a 20 year service life, and any war-era ships will be vastly outclassed by any post war-era ships anyway).
Vesuvius Class ships will no longer be constructed simply because they are too expensive. The remaining ones (however many that is...but for arguments sake lets say 5) will also be in service.
That gives Confed 15 Fleet Carriers...(more than they had at some low points in the war).

Now, without any real known threat to the Confederation, the money people will not (no matter what the military want) pay for anymore fleet/super/mega class carrier vessels. To bloody expensive and not needed.

IMO if we are not serving on the Midway again, the next class of carriers that we will see in the game will be based on the Hades style. Fast, well armed but with small numbers of fighters (imagine the Tarawa being a purpose built carrier and not a hastily converted Transport).

Big carriers are nice and dandy for a show of force, but everyone always goes and attacks the big carriers first! I would rather be on a smaller ship...at least there is a chance it will still be there at the end of a battle!

I think, too, the Hades and Midway class are new enough, so there should not be the need for a new class. The Plunketts and Murphys should also be still enough.
Nevertheless, if ther had to be a new class I would like something like a Strike Carrier (I believe the Tiger's Claw was one): About 100 fighters and decent, but "realistic" firepower so that it could stand against a Heavy Destroyer or even a Cruiser (as long it is not a Plunkett). Torpedo launchers, e.g. would be nice.
And perhaps a new class of Dreadnought, like the Concordia.

I'd bet that they *will* keep producing Vesuvii -- since they already have yards (well, they're not really yards in the traditional sense, but they're special Veesuvius making areas) tooled for them, and since expense is usually not an issue during an all-out galactic war.

As for the Tarawa designed intentionally as an escort carrier -- a ship like this exists, the TCS Eagle from the WC3 novel represented the next generation of escort carriers.

Some people don't consider the movie/novels/Academy TC show to be parts of the WC universe... We all know they are wrong thoguh.:)
