next class of carriers?

Since no one else has asked, I will. WTF? You better not be waiting to say "People are talking about in this thread" or something.

Do you seriously believe that Origin's plans for the future are *just* Ultima Online 2 (G)? They're not a bunch of guys in suits plotting not to release a Wing Commander game... nothing has a development team attached right now, but the possibility is being discussed.

From everything you and the others at the CIC have told us, yes, it made it look like Origin was doing Ultima Online 2 with nothing else in their sights. That little shred gives us more than anything we have heard in a long time, indicating there was at least, in some way, interest.

New ships... why not go with the oldschool cruisers, destroyers, and whatnot? Pull a Confederation or Bengal off the shelf. Find out what exactly the "new classes of cruisers" mentioned on both sides during Fleet Action were. Pull out the Hakagas... :D Or even stick us on a Plunkett and send us out scouting, with capship skirmishes every third mission. Something, but not a fully new carrier in a year.

As for the new game, is this just LOAF's logic or something thats official?

Ahh! What is wrong with you people? Origin never stopped thinking about Wing Commander -- *never*. They stopped having a development team work on Wing Commander, but they never stopped proposing Wing Commander projects and such.

(And of course that's not *logic* (however logical), we've never stopped communicating with Origin...)

So we can think about hope to get a new one during the next years or what? They are still thinking about WC. But many people just think about a thing and never do! It's just different. And even if we'll ever get a new one, what kind will it be? It can happen to us, that they produce a complete new one, which has only the name in common with the former ones. Maybe still want to save money and give us one like SO. Or even more changed without videos, without a good story, a plot etc. without everything what the name WC was standing for...you may not forget, why WC wasn't rentable. It was rentable it was sold well, but it was too expensive to produce. And if I should think about a WC without videos etc., I could even join the Freespace or Starlancer Universe. I like WC because of it's style, with which no other game can stand in concurrence. But I believe, this would be the point, where Origin/Ea would begin to save. And so I am unsure about a new game, maybe it could destroy my belief in the WC universe. And that is the last thing, I would enjoy!

I wouldnt consider SO to be a sequel.
What WOULD you consider it? (And for the love of all that's real, please don't say it's an add-on -- that contention has been sufficiently discounted numerous times.)

Manjana, mal nicht den Teufel an die Wand :).

(For the ones who do not understand German, it means only that he should not be so pessimistic. It translates roughly as "Do not paint the devil onto the wall", I do not know if there is a similar English proverb.)

I don't know what form the next game will take -- but I'd be willing to bet half a pug-nosed dog that it'll be for a next-generation console rather than for the PC.

Me and painting the devil on the wall? That's the last thing I like to do. I would call it realistic in some ways...I don't believe there will ever come such a good and expenisve game like WC4 was. P was less-cost-orientated, SO more than P, and then it stopped. Excuse me, but what can we expect to come next? Nada (one expression which is used in Germany for nothing) or just an expensive game like Wc4? This are the both extremes. If there will ever come a new WC, they will find a compromise, but even P. was not cheap enough to be rentable and so what can be the compromise? This is the thing I thought a bit too loud about!

In your opinion. However, even 'Professors Emeritus' can be wrong. :)

Never discount the opinion of the common man. To ignore it invites danger...

Ok, as LOAF has said there will be a new WC, just give it time, i mean it has been 2.5 years since we got a new one, but so what some games have gone 5-10 years without a new edition, just give OSI/EA time

Sure professors can be wrong...but not this time.

It's not an opinion at all. Simple fact is that it cannot be an add-on -- by definition, an add-on requires the "parent" game to provide the engine to run (such as SM1/2 required that WCI be installed). WCSO has its own engine, and was distributed as a stand-alone game. There's no opinion to it.

And regardless, the general concensus -- by those "in the know" as well as your so-called common man -- is that it is NOT an add-on. Sure there's a few vocal minority who continue to claim that it is an add-on, but the facts just don't back up the claim.

Sheesh...this argument has been rehashed to death.Enough already...accept it.

As has been stated several times already, SO by definition is not an Add-On...however, I don't consider it to be a sequel either...that of course leaves us with the question:

What the hell is it!!?
