Miscellaneous Privateer stuff Q's

Wedge009

Rogue Leader
1. Some of the Retros are crazy enough to crash into you without even bothering to shoot weapons - they're pretty much human missiles. This isn't a problem with Talons, but with those Kilrathi ships... I suddenly had the idea to turn tail and let loose with my turrets. It was the only time I found the turrets useful, aside from the tractor beam. Anyone else find the turrets useful/useless?

2. There are two very strange files installed onto the HD from the CD Privateer - TABTNE.VDA and TABTXE.NDA. Looking at them with a text editor, they appear to be some sort of batch based adventure... but WTH are they doing in Priv? They don't appear to have any effect on the game.

3. Not just in Priv... the Centurion, Thunderbolt, and several other ships (including real life planes) have a savage jaw painted on the bottom of the fuselage. Why? Is there some tradition behind this?

1) I use the turrets for the tractor beam only, I think that they operate automatic if we are not in then
2) no Idea...
3) yes, several WW II planes use that paint job on their fighters but is mostly a squadron idea that anything else, also Vietman Phantons had that jaw, That is a tradition that still survive this day, I think that even the some A-10 have it.

2) Simple. Its probably an in-joke!

Tabtne.vda --- Art D's First Batch Adventure ---

Tabtxe.nda --- Art D's Next Batch Adventure ---

1) retros are crazy
2) retros are crazy
3) retros are crazy

Taryn Cross looks gooood....for an animation...

What's starlancer like?

Oh, and did I mention...Retro's are crazy?

Think of those Retro and Kilrathi rammers as futuristic Kamakazis.

"I shall mount your bones in my hull!" [Kilrathi, Privateer/RF]

I *used* to play Privateer before Windows 95. I remember trying to start a new game, and flying against Kilrathi, and have them ram me. Were those Salthi? Since i distinctly remember them being Light Fighters in WCI...

Looked like Salthi, but they had those Steltek variant guns on them...so I'd say too powerful to be Salthi. However, they may have just been refitted with Steltek Guns.

Question, if it is a Salthi, isn't the powerplant a bit weak for Steltek cannon?

Remember, those Kilrathi ships only had the Steltek variant made by the Retros. That is only in the Rightious Fire add on for Privateer. Normally they would only have 3 laser guns and some missles. They replaced the center laser with the copy of the Steltek gun. Not much to taking those out in few numbers, but get caught with a hord of em and your in for a fight! As far as the charging rate on those ships with the beefed up gun, I have noticed they dont fire as often with the gun compared to the weaker lasers, so they do experience some power problems.

They are indeed Salthi -- and there's absolutely no reason why their powerplants could have been upgraded (I mean, that's really, really easy to do in Privateer).

hmm, they never purposefully ram you in WCI... And what is with WCI II and III? The Dralthi becomes the Drakhti or something, than Dralthi? All the ships in WCII are like renamed Kilrathi sihps from WCI, and the salthra or whatever is WAY to powerful with those guns...

I'm betting you're being confused by the fact that there are many Dralthis in WC2 flown by the Drakhai (The Kilrathi Imperial Guard). They yell out the ever-popular "YOU CANNOT DEFEAT THE DRAKHAI!"

If the Gothri is new in WC2 SO1 and appears in Privateer (how many years after ?), why they don´t appear in WCIII (same year that Priv) they are brand new.

yea ghost, there are still morningstars in the confederation SF and i am sure there are still ships that are of the same class as the Waterloo, we just do not see them

But they are new, like the best fighter in his type that the kilrathi have, i don´t buy that the war is great and we have not seen yet.

exactly, you just don;t see them. In vietnam, would you see every type of plane the us had in the entire war if you were just a lowly combat pilot, of course not. Would you see ever type of plane the N. Vietnamese had? probably not. It is the same thing just with instead of a tiny country, you have a couple of thousand systems
