Game wont run

Hi there
let me get this straight, the problem with the kernel32.dll-error is the SDL.dll?!?
I downloaded Privateer yesterday and had the same error (well, at last an kernel32-error, and I quess ists the same)

do you have them "stand allone" or do I realy have to load Vegastrike zu get them?

P.S. sorry for my bad english
 
you can try the DLL's listed here (that way you don't need to download the whole vegastrike)

but that might not help for you.... you can try doing this
start|run|cmd
cd /path/to/privateer
cd bin
set PATH=.
vegastrike.exe

perhaps your PATH variable got screwed up by gimp... or some other program... this may fix it... then again it may not--report back.


Also: please paste the full error message you get--- it might help us...but it does sound a bit like a broken path-- gaim.exe has the same problem on my other machine--though I thought Vega Strike was immune to such things... otherwise try the binaries listed above

I'm not so shure if I understand that
but i'll give it a try as soon as im back home (now I'm in the office (it's 08:52 CET) )

Well try downloading the DLL's first...
then copy those commands into the terminal...replacing the /path/to with c:\progra~1\privateer\
and so forth :)

anyhow hopefully replacing those dll's will fix the problem
 
You mean, starting Privateer from a DOS-Window if the dll-replacement dosn't work?

(*pfffuh* sorry, this is not my day)
 
yep :) that's the idea... that way you can turn off the PATH that could be causing problems

I'd put my money on having that dll thing work... be aware that the link I gave you links you to all the versions of all the files--just download the latest version after clicking on the appropriate dll link.... I think the dll's in question were SDL.dll and maybe even msvcp71.dll but I'm not 100% sure--give 'em all a go if necessary--should be pretty low bandwidth
 
Of course, if you are using windows 9x or ME, you have to type command instead of cmd to open a dos window, but you probably know that

Yes, I have Windows "M"any "E"rrors *lol*
and afaik I have link to the DOS-Window in my "Start/Pogramme/"
or do I have to go the way through start/run....... ?
 
...then change to the corresponding drive and directory and launch vegastrike.
got that ;-)
 
Ack I gave you the wrong location for the DLL's... those are the same new versions that you got...the old Win98 compatible SDL.dll is called
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users/hellcatv/SDL.dll
download that to overwrite the c:\program files\Vegastrike\Privateer\bin\SDL.dll and replace the broken copy.
Let us know if it works.
you shouldn't need to run it from the dos prompt with this fix--but you can try that if this doesn't work

Which sdl.dll did you try? The one from my account I pasted above? So same old error? or did you try the DLL I pasted earlier... or list of dll's.
