I didn't really mess with the ships in Prophecy, but sort of went to town on the ones in Secret Ops. In both games I sometimes replaced a ships 36 dragonflies with six dumbfires. I hated the panther's chain ions, and replaced them with pulse particles. On the Vampire, I replaced the two pulse particles with two cloudbursts and replaced the four tachyon guns with pulse particles.

Besides that, I doubled all the defensive stats of Cerberus' fighters so my wingmen wouldn't constantly eject. Stiletto still manages to get shot down. :rolleyes:
 
I replaced the lamprey's shieldkiller with a plasma gun with loads of gun energy, and it still sucked. :p
 
I like to swap the Panther for the Vampire. I never mess with the guns though, for me that would destroy the in game balance to much. I've been known to go to town on the missiles though...I don't remember what the default loadout is for the missiles, but I usually dump them all for ELRIR missiles.

I also like to tweak missile performance by boosting the ELRIR warhead size and lowering it's decoy-ability, so it hits more often and a lot harder. I prefer missile melees to gun dogfights, myself.

I dunno, as long as you don't mess with the capacitor or recharge rates, I don't see any problem with messing with a ships guns.

Especially when you're swapping out Panthers for Vampires and replacing all their ordnance with super-missiles.
 
I usually edit the torpedoes so that every 10-20 seconds they split into 2-6 FFs. keeps the bugs away while the torp destroys their big ships :D

another fun thing to do is make the torp split into 20 Dumbfire missiles and launch it at the engine of a triton, almost always takes out that pesky rear turret :) ahh sweet revenge for shooting down all my torps:D

Makes me wonder if you could make a dumbfire split into more dumbfires in a sort of perpetual way.
 
I like to quadruple the refire rate on Confed bomber turrets--then the bugs don't DARE sit on my tail.
