    An "academic" discussion...

Actually the differentiation between Confed and BW surfaced during the Battle of Earth (Kruger: "Oh, solidarity of race against the Cats, is that it?"). The BW have *always* been around, nothing left field about it....the war, of course, was a unifying factor but after the war, just like during...

Perhaps Blair was a jerk in WCA, but I think Tolywn had Blair beat...

Yes, the novels did make a good attempt in trying to tie up loose ends. I don't consider systems being in the Border Worlds as a comparative contradiction at all...it never was an issue we thought about when playing the old WC games; until WCP came out we didn't have a defined WC universe map...

Is Killing Kilrathi and Nephilim more justified than Humans?

He was a mercenary as far as the fact that he needed money to eat. But mercenary also has inherent in its definition a lack of morals, i.e. someone who wouldn't make statements like "there's no damn honor just tryin to poke someone in the eye like that" and "ain't like in the old days, when you...

    An "academic" discussion...

My point exactly. Whether or not Chris had complete control, the idea was a stand-alone media. It's hard to extract the best of the entire series and squeeze it into an hour and a half movie. There are certain concepts that they felt audiences would've preferred seeing, like Blair and Maniac...

Is Killing Kilrathi and Nephilim more justified than Humans?

Yeah, we'd have as much reason to leech the Confed pilots as the BWs before defection. Most of them, like the old vet, are just flying for flying's sake and following orders passed down to them from a corrupt top. The only *real* enemy in WC4 that deserves a "shoot to kill" disposition is the...

Is Killing Kilrathi and Nephilim more justified than Humans?

What part is that in, I do vaguely remember reading something along those lines but my ICIS manual is, alas, hundreds of miles away from here and haven't read it in years...

It's not necessarily about discrediting the movie, it's about Chris not having complete control of the material, thus accounting for many deviations from the orginal canon. Once we understand that, we probably won't find ourselves so desperate to try to squeeze it and tweak to fit the story...

Is Killing Kilrathi and Nephilim more justified than Humans?

I agree with the "defensive war" ideal. I had no problem helping the Kilrathi in WC4 or WCP -- the less people I have to shoot and less borders I have to guard, the better. Of course there were previous bad experiences with the Kilrathi, but w/o Kilrah they become as problematic as any rogue...

The WCM is a lot more out of place in comparison with the rest of WC (games, books, etc) than any Star Trek episode in comparison with its main storyline, since Star Trek is a TV-first, video game afterwards series as opposed to the game-first, movie WAY later series. Star Trek has spanned for...

    Questions and things

Besides, that "never existed" crap only applies to the movie. Everyone other game and movie has characters that refer to deceased friends.

    tolwyn's cheap shot (wc2 dialogue)

Perhaps that was the best explanation Forstchen could come up with that wouldn't be too contradicting. He even tries to back up the fact of Blair always being ignorant about Hunter's status later in Heart of the Tiger, when he's contemplating what to do with Hobbes' effects after his betrayal...

    SM1 - Border Zone 2

IIRC, everyone but Doomsday and Maniac will obey your Return to Base orders once you've left the home base navpoint. That might depend on if you're playing KS or the original version. The key to WC1, SM1 & 2 when you're having severe problems completing a mission is often to *NOT* follow the...

    Jump Point Defense

Are mines that easy to destroy? I remember a line from Fleet Action: "that was a trick we tried too often -- hide a drone in a minefield and hope they'd simply avoid the minefield." Instead of destroying them they used minesweepers, even though a Kilrathi class is never mentioned, and the...

    An "academic" discussion...

Yeah, it always was awfully convenient (or unnerving when it was me playing Blair's character) that the flight recorder was always missing or damaged every time he encountered stealth fighters. Even so, I just find it a bit incompetent for Tactical not to even bat their eye at the thought of...

    tolwyn's cheap shot (wc2 dialogue)

AFAIK Hunter didn't serve on the Concordia. Not just because we would've seen him in WC2 -- for all practical purposes, we were supposed to assume that Hunter was dead at the beginning of WC2. But since there wasn't any real evidence that he HAD bought it (except for that one line by Blair in...

    An "academic" discussion...

As I mentioned in another thread, I believe that the theories we develop to explain contradictions between the games/books and the movie are just our way of making sense of the fact that Chris plainly decided to throw in some things here and there and forget about trying to make it congruent...

    Capital ship engagements

The PTC is used a couple times in the actual game, the main instance I remember was right after Sparks gets killed by the wing of Sartha -- a few seconds later you hear the peculiar sound and then the Concordia "We've destroyed a capital ship!" ::Fralthra:: NO!!!!! According to Joan's, and...

    tolwyn's cheap shot (wc2 dialogue)

Besides the fact that Tolwyn is badmouthing my role character, I never thought it was logical for him to pin the blame on Blair. He had proven himself over and over, and when things all went to hell the Admiral decides to make a scapegoat outta him and forget all his previous accomplishments...
