Rodriquez had just graduated from the Academy when he was assigned to the TCS Tarawa on its maiden voyage.
Piloting an F-57B Saber on his first training mission aboard the TSC Tarawa, his starboard Tangent-class engine overheats forcing him to shut it down. Disobeying Bondarevsky's order to abort the landing, he crashes slamming the Sabre's nose against the side of the airlock. The cockpit fire killed Rodriquez and mortally wounded his co-pilot Emilia. Gunnery Sergeant Singh, who was manning the Sabre's turret, died on impact. |
