Wing Commander TV series gone?

I remember reading ages ago Chris was trying to get a series continuing from the end of the Wing Commander movie. Anyone ever hear anything on it?

I imagine we'll find out something when it's worth noting.

Why would anyone conceivably want to remember the existence of that piece of cinematic crap? I could handle all of about 30 minutes of it. My only dilema was whether to return the tape or put it in the microwave and accept the charge.

If there was ever to be a Wing Commander TV series, it would have to be VERY well made and able to stand on its own with viewers who have never played the games. Just look at the huge fan base for Star Trek, and Paramount is still having trouble with ratings for Enterprise. If I remember correctly, a network once tried to make a space aerial combat series called "Space - Above and Beyond". It sucked. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a WC show, but they would have to do it right.

Space Above and Beyond was great, and so was the Wing Commander movie. There already has been a WC show, and it was great too. Whether or not you liked the WC movie, there were many people who did.. and this is the one place in the world where they have the highest concentration.

Space above and beyond was indeed great. WC movie was fun, I just wished it had more identity with the games.

If you don´t like the movie, think about the Freespace fans. They don´t even have one. (heck, they don´t have a GAME either) :D

I was hoping for the film to be exactly like the game universe (Mark Hamil and all the others) however when the film came out, I liked the idea of the movie taking a different path to the games.

I found Space above and beyond an amazing show. They even put in some parallels to what happened to the Marines during WWII!

I found the WC movie... lacking in many regards. I think they changed things too much for my liking. But, I did find the matrix like effect it had *very* impressive. Wait, didn't WC movie come first :)

I did'nt mean to rub anyone the wrong way, but it's because I hold the games in such high regard that I think the movie is so damn awful. I mean, come on....I seem to remember the "Tiger Claw" making sonar pinging sounds and a wrecked fighter being pushed overboard where it plunged downward off of the flight deck despite being in outer space. Not to mention the fact that I have seen better acting and dialogue in an elementary school talent show. Anyway, different strokes for different folks I guess. I'll be looking forward to WC6 if they ever make it.

It did have it's ups and downs. Although I generally liked the film, there were some very disapointing features.

SAAB was a great show...

It ended up being one of the shows FOX pulls its stupid scheduling on... they played the first bit of the series on Saturdays, in a timeslot that wasn't great for the type of the show... Then they pulled a Futurama, pre-empted it all the time, jumped it around in timeslots, took a big break in the middle, I think they played a couple of the episodes in the wrong order.

The type of effects in SAAB were rather new and quite expensive at the time. With the costs of the show, they'd need good ratings to keep it profitable. They gave up on it after a very small portion of a season in a strange time slot.

This is nowhere near the situation TV is in now. Comparatively, the special effects are cheap. Also, it's not really possible to get dominating ratings anymore, which is why niche shows seem to be showing up more, especially on cable channels. They don't have as much of a downside as they used to.

I may get your opinion for free, but I'd like my money back.

Latest rumor is that James Cameron is planning his next project to be some kind of epic sci fi saga.
He hasnt done anything since Titanic (besides a documentary), but he certainly has a nack for big screen action entertainment.

Just thought I would throw it in here..

Not to be insulting, but personally I'd not like to be named with professional film critics in one sentence...
If a movie got an oscar its almost guaranteed that I am going to hate it. Only exceptions I remember are of the scifi or fantasy genre.

Quite similar goes to game critics BTW. On average I enjoy 70% rated games much more then 90% ones. When i was younger I actually once bought a 100%(!) game that sucked so incredibly...
