Farbourne
Rear Admiral
Some people have said they don't like Arena because they were disappointed that it wasn't like the other WCs. They were quickly shot down.
Pun intended?

So, that just leave poor Privateer...which was a great idea that pushed the boundaries of the possible for it's day, but might have been better had it been made with the WC3 engine...
However, I owe that game a lot. My motherboard was shot for a while and I could afford a WC3 PSX quicker than a MB. Thankfully, Funcoland (!) had one copy left - four discs, no box, no manual for $10.
Wish it weren't so... Hey! Who voted for WC4!?
As a convinced Privateer 2-hater, I'm always surprised that P2 doesn't get all the votes in polls like this. Surely, that was the worst, buggiest, most poorly balanced gameplay ever seen in a WC title. At least the storyline was a saving grace...
If you have a bit of free cash, consider buying an old PC from around 2001 - just before the XP switchovers, Windows 98SE machines are best for WC1-WC4 as they offer DOS booting for the first two games. That, or trawl through the CIC for advice on how to run the old games on your modern machine. And remember, you can only get Secret Ops online.
Strangely, the reverse is true for me, and this was playing on an old 386 with DOS 6.22. Maybe you need to override the frame-skip settings? (From memory, play around with Alt-+/- and Ctrl-+/-.)- First and foremost: Clunky spaceflight engine. Somehow felt different to WC1, which by contrast actually feels quite smooth. Why is this? It just doesn't flow smoothly on any machine I've played it on.
