Wing Commander IV Storyboards - Scene 75 (November 11, 2010)

Bandit LOAF

Long Live the Confederation!
Scene 75: secret agent Blair chooses to watch Seether arrive on the Lexington... because if there's one thing that can easily be done covertly it's landing a space shuttle.

These storyboard images were recovered from a backup CD containing materials belonging to Origin's web development team. They were dated November 17, 1995 and were likely planned for a never-completed web feature.

I remember thinking this part was awfully silly, in game. Everyone onboard would be able to see the shuttle land and I'm sure people would be aware of a change in duty roster... so why does Blair, whos a Colonel and the ship's Wing Commander, have to hide like a middle schooler trying to look into the girl's locker room?

Well, it's not a given that everyone onboard could see the shuttle land - while the shuttle was on landing approach, about the only people who'd be aware of it are the comms & radar operators, and once it landed, it's not like there was televised coverage from the flight deck streamed to every room on the ship.

More importantly, even if everyone on the ship knew about a shuttle arriving, and even if everyone soon found out that there were new pilots on the roster, there may still have been reasons to keep Blair off the deck when this particular shuttle was landing. In particular, didn't Paulsen meet Seether on the deck? In all likelihood, the last thing he needed was for Blair to hear them talking.

Besides that - the shuttle didn't necessarily just bring Seether in. There may have been some other people or equipment on board that wasn't meant to be seen. Remember, the Black Lance had one of the flight deck bays all to themselves, so anything brought on board in secret could easily remain secret afterwards.
