Who owns the IP of wing commander? I.e. who hold the right to the series and such?

How come there isn't a new WC in the works? It was a fantastic series

If you registered you could post this where it belongs. Thread moved to the Wing Commander Chat Zone. You will need an account to reply.

Electronics Arts owns the rights to Wing Commander. The market for space sims has somewhat collapsed, with post-Prophecy sims selling in the tens of thousands of units. (where many hundred thousand to a million units are needed to make it worth the effort) EA are getting a much better return on their investment from their EA Sports and Sims games, to name two successful branches.

While there are no official games in the works, there are several fan games in the works or already completed. You might want to check these out:

Wing Commander: Unknown Enemy(fanmade addon for Secret Ops, already completed):

Wing Commander: Standoff(another addon for SO in the works; it's about the battle of Earth which is described in the 'Fleet Action' novel):

Wing Commander Saga(a Freespace2 mod set in the end of the Terran Kilrathi war, which is being worked on currently):

WCSaga forum on the CIC

WCSaga forum on Hard Light Productions

There are another few which I don't remember right now.

Thanks for your replies, and sorry if this it was a common question Jibbo (I should have used the search feature)

Thanks for your info Lynx, very helpful :)

Additionally, other entities have managed to get partial rights for limited uses. Chris Roberts has television/film rights for the WC1-4 era and Destination Software has the ability to remake older EA properties into Game Boy Advance games.
