Wing Commander III boring?

Hehehe, here me out.

Ive been reading all 373 pages of the novelization, and being my fourth time thru and having played thru the game three weekends ago im having a hard time keeping my interest. The book is so much more depressing than the game. Blair isnt as good a pilot as he used to be, in the game we get to save Locanda IV, which intern makes viable the continuance of Blackmane Station. None of my wingmen die, except Cobra and Hobbes(who technically isnt your wingman anymore at that point). Tolwyn gets to fire Behemoth at least once before it is destroyed. That whole subplot with Dr. Severin and Vagabond was pretty cool. Flash being a test pilot for the Excalibar and losing a dog fight to stay onboard was better than him being home defense and transferring aboard. I do think Rachel was the right choice though. The book did have nice touches with Kevin Tolwyn and Jason Bondarevsky being involved.

Not looking forward to the Price of Freedom, especially since i beat that one the week following WC3:) At least I have False Colors inbetween.
 
The novel is definetly more realstic though, and in that aspect it's less boring (as much as any book can be less boring than a game) all things considered. How fun it is if you win all the time, never loose friends, and always get the job done?
 
It just doesnt make for a very deep plot, and doesnt really relate the hopelessness of the war at that point.
 
Reading something not particularlly interesting after having taken some NyQuil is not a good idea. Take it from me. zzzzzZZZZzzzzzZzZz
 
I thought both versions of Wing Commander 3 were exciting -- the novel possibly moreso, because it definately did a wonderful job of conveying the horrible situation at the end of the war... the farther they bring you down, the better the retribution at the end!
 
I dont understand that of "no one die in WC games if we always win the battles", a lot of people dies in WC I (Bossman and Iceman for start), WC II (Spirit and that female pilot that is with us on the start), WC III (that pilot and Cobra), WC IV (Vagabond) and P (Dallas).
As for being borring, try making a run inside a Bhantkara class Carrier hangar , once I got two Darkets taking off right in front of me, now that was fun.
 
You mean Captain Elizabett Norwood aka Shadow which dies in WC2 (just a few days before her leave, so sad). :)
And I did enjoy both versions, the novel for being more "realistic" and the game for being real fun to play. And without the novel I would never have understand why Hobbes turned traitor. I always thought (as long as I had only the game) that he could not stand the idea of getting his homeplanet getting blown to bits (understandable).
 
Well Dragon, considering the numbers of all the major characters, as well as many other pilots in the games, no, not many people die in the games (note that Iceman also didn't die in WC1).

As for the Bhantkara, I do that all the time, but it's so easy it's not fun anymore.:)
 
A real wing commander, in a real war time, deals with mortality in a daily basis.

Well, although not many major characters die in WC3, there was a pilot who quickly got killed during one of the first missions.

I like the novel, and it was pretty much realistic and deals about the essence of Blair's existence, as well the entire human race. And the end was really magnificent.

But the next novel, I mean the Price of Freedom. There was some goods and bads around it, like how detailed the Border Worlders had to defend themselves from Confed (flying Sabers and Ferrets instead of the Avengers or Vindicators in the game), and the politics around it. But then the romance was really, really unnecessarry, and then Vagabond had a too little mention in the story.
 
Yeah, but isn't it a little harder for certain characters to die in WC3? I mean, I've been playing WC3 for three years, and I've only seen Hobbes' funeral once.

Was there a pilot by the name of Weasel that died in Wing Commander III? It sounds familiar, but I can't remember.
