Wing Commander Academic papers?

I know its a long shot but my final year project is largely space combat orientated, I've got numerous papers, articles and books to work from and reference on specific issues like collision detection and other physics, terrain generation and level of details, special effects in games. However, and I know this is a long shot, it would be REALLY usefull if there were any academic papers which made reference to the issues in space combat titles, even better wing commander (since I've gone and made WC3/4 my case studies)...
So does anyone know of anything which might be of use?

I recall Quarto writing a thesis on computer games. IIRC, it was quite a good read, although - admittedly - I only focused on the parts about WC. :)

That will either be worthless, or very cool. Depending on the ability with which you write the paper and the openmindedness of whatever Teacher/Professor you turn it into. My freshman year I got to write a paper comparing a bunch of Renaissance English plays (fletcher, jonson, etherege) to contemporary drama. Like, sitcoms. I referenced Seinfeld and King of Queens. Got an A, solid.

It was fun writing that thesis, and my supervisor was very pleased with it, as well.

(however, I do believe Pedro's asking about papers dealing with those issues he mentioned, and I'm pretty sure my thesis did not cover collision checking in WC :p)

Actually no Q, I was reffering to the general issues of Space Combat, I already have elements like collision detection covered.
This should be usefull :D

Very impressive Quarto. Sorry I missed it the first time around. From someone who just turned in the final copy of their master's thesis, I know what a labor of love these things really are (I, sadly, could not sneak Wing Commander into mine :) ). Its very weird and refreshing reading a master's document with no figures or schematics in it for once in a very long time.

Just got through looking through it, couldn't find anything relevant unfortunatley, but it was interesting, I'm going to have to find time to actually sit down with it.
Argghhh I hate essay writing, my english language skills are too poor, I just wish I could simply hand in the code on its own :P

It should be an easy thing to reference -- just forget the idea of having it already tied to games. There's fifty plus years worth of research about how *actual* space combat would work... you can pick all sorts of highly respected scientific papers and then apply that data to developing realistic video game engines.

Its a possibility, I've tended to emphasise quite heavily the implications of it being a game and hence what is expected from it, however as time has gone on I've made it more and more realistic, looking to real world physics rather than standard models in games. Some rewording early on might make that work rather nicely :)
Thanks LOAF.
