Wing Commander 3 Impossible Mission

Back when I used to think the kill board really ment something, I used to try and see how many I could rack up in this mission, WITHOUT loosing any wingmen. for the best score you keep them as long as you can and then send them back to base just before they would have died anyway.
 
Don't you have the oppotunity to fly missions without wingmen? I'm pretty sure you can not select any wingmen, though I haven't tried it myself.
 
due to 1994/95's crappy graphics :( or should I say good graphics ;) wing commander 3 was incapable of textured ground, only the lava was colored (gourad shaded) the rest of the terrain was white.
