Wing Commander 2...

Knowing how many you've killed of each type really gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment. If you really want to go the extra mile, also note what you're flying when you make the kill.

The last time I replayed WC (finished about 2 months ago) I started by noting how many kills I made on each mission, what type of mission I was flying, what type of ship I was flying, who my wingman was, how many kills he/she made, my overall impressions of the mission, when I was transfered from squadron to squadron, when I was awarded the medals I earned, and I went as far as to brake down my capital ship kills into types. When I reach WC2 I might break it down into fighter types as well. Overmortal is right, it is fun to go back and review your performance, and it is interesting to read any notes you might have taken about the mission, the strategy you used, your wingman's performance, etc.

My My, you have a lot of time in your hands =)
lucky you.

Not really. I have to "pencil in" my gaming time, usually when my girlfriend is at work and I'm not  . That means I get to play once or twice a week at most, for maybe an hour or ninety minutes per session. I've found one key to saving time is to set up a template of sorts that you use to record the same data about every mission you fly, as outlined above. You'll get into a pattern, and it doesn't take that long at all once you establish a routine.

Umm . . . now that I think about it, that sounds like too much work.

This from a guy who just had an irresistable, spasmodic urge to reorganize his studio.

I'm replaying WC2 after a long time and I think I'm probably rusty... I'm finding it to be kinda hard. The first mission in a rapier with hobbes is hell. Kur + 3 more grikaths is far too much for the aging Rapier to handle. The rapier is kinda sucky in WC2, the gun capacitor gets empty way too fast. It would probably fare better with 4 MDs. I can kill Grikaths a lot faster and easier in a Broadsword. ITTS helps a lot, of course.

But, overall, the Rapier isn't suited for battling anything above drakrihs and sarthas.

I strongly disagree: I found the Rapier to be an excellent fighter against Grikaths: the Rapier's long range cannons rip Grikaths to pieces without them having a chance to return fire and its high speed allows it to keep the the disatance. And against those slow moving Grikaths ITTS shouldn't really be necessary.
OTOH, I never was very comfortable with the Broadsword.

I was always pretty good in a Broadsword. The key was timing and prudent use of turrets. Those three mass drivers up front (mixed with the big capacitor) are *quite* potent against anything that isn't smart enough to break off its frontal attack. The neutron turrets make for mighty fine target practice when something such as a Sartha gets behind you. Anything that seems to escape the guns for too long merrits an IFF and a middle finger.

I have to agree with you, the mass drivers on the broadsword made for easy killing of some overly confident enemies. The lack of afterburner killed me until we finally got into a longbow in wc3, although I didn't really much like the gun combo on the longbow...lots of missiles and torps however for when you need them...

lol, gotta love that, I always do that to a fighter thats been pissing me off for a while, or an ace that killed me the last time we went toe-to-toe.

seems funny, in a broadsword you use guns alot, but in a longbow you use missle more than guns (at least in my case). which one is older, the broadsword or the longbow?
