Whatcha think...?

Hari? The Hari never offered to share their tech with the Cats. They just went from world to world, consuming resources. It was the Shata, then the Utara, who offered the Cats technology. (I am operating on the assumption that the Shata and Utara were two different species, one that gave the Kilrathi space travel, the other jump points.)

man, the Kats just got everything given' to them? To think, good ol' Confed was working hard for decades figurin' out this stuff, when we could of just waited for some alien race to pop up over Earth and hand us the technology :)

The Shata and Utara are the races the Kilrathi got their technology from and then slaughtered... the Hari are the race they defeated in a four year war -- the surviving Hari killed themselves.

The reason every fanfic portrays the Steltek as malevolent is because the authors have been conditioned to think that way. Practically every scifi story has some horrible evil alien race trying to waste us for whatever reason. I suppose it makes for better entertainment then:
The year is 2654 and the Terran Confederation first encountered the Kilrathi. With great trepidation the humans went to meet the Kilrathi representatives. But these fierce looking creatures turned out be just like teddy bears, with nary a conceitful thought in their furry heads. And lo the humans and the Kilrathi lived happily ever after with the Firekkans, Hari, Nephilim, etc, et al.

I think the point is that it's original to have the Steltek voluntarily give up their technology and live in peace. That doesn't mean that all the other races have to be peaceful as well.

Exactly... the Steltek are a very *original* concept, at least for WC -- so I'm not sure why every fanfic in the universe has to villify them (especially since they've never done anything hostile to us at all -- the only encounter we've had was when they saved us from the drone...).

I think after SOPS Confed tries to hunt down any remaining bugs, examines the stellar accreation device and investiagtes those other wormhole-rumours.

BTW, what has being a democracy to do with "not invading"?

The Senate in a Democracy has the power to veto a President's vote for war. This leads to a SNAFU, since sometimes declairing war is the right thing, but the majority house will disagree.

Also, for some reason, in Civilization II, you can't attack someone without provocation if you're a Democracy. :)

Ah, CivII...

Why doesnt any one make a WC conversion to that game?
Terraform a planet, set up bases, etc...

Hee hee...Just wait for CivIII...

Ya know, he did...and I didn't hear about him for the longest time...Now they start announcing Civ III all
over these video game magazines. I'm pretty sure he'd have to be involved for there to be another Civ game.

He wasn't involved with Civ II, why would he be involved with Civ III?
