What the...? (September 4, 2008)

Hmm... That looks like....
wait....

It's really pretty weird.....
I don't quite get what it has to do with Ultima....

Pretty much my reaction when I found it. Ultima II was the one where you travelled through time and space, so maybe they got confused? Who knows.

In Ultima I you have to fight an alien race that has allied with Mondain. Most Ultima fans accept the Kilrathi as this race, mostly because there was a Kilrathi ship in Ultima VII and there are those devolved Kilrathis in Ultima Underworld 2

Anyway, seen as how the Ultima universe works, it's not that difficult to believe the Kilrathi could have entered Sosaria somehow. Ultima has always been the link between all Origin games

Really? It's a convenient small universe story but it doesn't make any critical sense -- Ultima I was developed about a decade before Wing Commander I, so there's no way its developers were thinking about the Kilrathi.

(Also, I've never heard any Ultima fans say this. They certainly didn't care much for Wing Commander in general in the 1990s.)

I was always a die-hard fan of both series, WC being my favorite of the two, despite playing the Ultima games first. At any rate, there was a segment of Ultima I where you had to combat enemy starships to become an 'ace.' They must have really expanded this concept in the remake to include actually landing on a Kilrathi space station. I always saw the presence of Prince Thrakhath's WC2 fighter in U7 as a joke (which I'm sure it was intended as), since the Kilrathi encountered (presumably Thrakhath) dies.

Chris Roberts didn't even join Origin until roughly a decade later, and no attempt to retcon the story of the first Ultima has really been made. In the summaries placed in the manuals of subsequent games (which focused the canon more on being fantasy and not sci-fi fantasy mish-mash-fest), they don't even mention the fact that you have to get a space shuttle and travel back in time 1,000 years in a time machine to kill Mondain.

Always thought Exodus being a flesh-automaton thing was cool, though.

Well, It was not thought up neither in 1980 not in 1986 at the time of the Ultima I remake. As you said, the Kilrathi were not conceived until 1990.
It was mentioned in some old ultima story faq which I can't find a link to.... It certainly wasn't official.

EDIT: I found the link http://delphiwww.cern.ch/~boyko/html/ultima-faq.html

But, Ultima has always tied with the other origin games.

Seggallion in Ultima comes from the game Knights of Legend
Gorn comes from The Quest and Ring Quest
Gertan comes from Caverns of Freitag (not an origin game)
I think Eep Eep in Runes of virtue comes from Tangled tales...

And so on. As I said the way the Ultima universe works makes it possible to mix all origin games in one big multiverse :)

Devolved Kilrathi?

In Ultima Underworld II in one of the worlds you visit you find some kind of felines who can talk using their minds. They want you to ask the Wisps (an entity that gathers information through the different worlds), about their past.

The wisps say this:

"The Trilkhai were once a powerful group of anthropomorphic "felines." Since their catastrophic "loss" to a group of humanoids, they have since devolved "past" the point of "tool-using."

The ship in Ultima VII was an easter egg, but still it was incorporated in the story. It's not necesarily Prince Thrakhath's ship...

Also I heard rumors that Serpent isle was gonna have an expansion about an stranded Kilrathi. This was mentioned in the exult forums a long time ago.

All Origin games are like this. There's plenty of Ultima, Crusader, etc references peppered throughout the Wing Commander series. But I think most people understand these to be in-jokes rather than something to try to string together with much meaning.

Well, if they can talk using their minds, maybe they devolved only in the tech aspect.

My thoughts exactly.

I would guess the Idea of Kilrathi was already in their minds then....

Because IIRC it is not the other way round and Kilrathi is an anagram of Trilkhai, because we know that Kilrathi comes from Kill and Wrath (read that somewhere)

Well yeah, but that was from Ultima Underworld II which does not predate Wing Commander. UU2 = 1992, WC = 1990.

The Trilkahi in Underworld 2 were just a nod to Wing Commander 1 and 2 (both were out by then.)

Now I am confused....
Where those Trilkahi in U 1 or 2? and what is that mod here about? U1 or U2 (no, Bono has nothing to do with it)
And why are there Kilrathi when it was...
I don't get it.

Ahem...
Whatever...

As far as I can remember, the Trilkahi were in Underworld 2.

The mod that this thread is about is a remake of Ultima 1. The mod is for Neverwinter Nights 1.

Apparently, the creators of the mod decided to make the undescribed alien race you fight for a short stage in Ultima 1 the Kilrathi.

ok, I just was confused about that "Kilrathi were in part 2 but we see a mod that remakes part one and there are some"-thing...

EDIT: And it was early in the morning AND I hadn't had my coffee yet. :D
