I've got a quick question,

what ever became of the Double Helix race? The last time I remember them mentioned was in the WC1 manual (I vaguely remember something later, but I can't recall). Why didn't they help us against the kilrathi/nephilim? Are they pacifists? Their race kind of disappeared form the WC universe.

And also, I just reread the Wing COmmander 3:Heart of the Tiger book by Forstchen, and I had a question. . . what came first, the game or the book (I was just trying to find out if the author just took poetic liscense with the storyline)?
 
Well, since communication between the Double Helix and Confed resulted in the death of the human communicator ("ice-pick to the brain"), I'd expect Confed to try to stay away from the DH.
 
if you read the wcx stories, the double helic play a major part in them, vanquishing the aliens u meet in privateer (damn it i cant remember the name :( ) also the game came first, always does :D the books are merely "canon" interpretations of the games, often with poetic license adding extras

the helix however, are sposed to be a kinda super race, and since we cant communicate with them, and they dont do anything, they are kinda irrelevant, but they still exist in wcp, after all theres no evidence to the contrary
 
Horrid misuse of the term 'canon' there, Madman.

The Double Helix are just an ordinary race, now... the Secret Ops fiction and Prophecy's ICIS manual mentions them a bit, including the below information about the 'first contact' (it goes on to say that further communication was succesful, though).

The Double Helix aren't some powerful super race... at least, this isn't stated anywhere in the WC canon. That's just NeoDevilBane being... well, if you can't say anything nice about a person...

The WC3 novel was written from an outline based on the WCIII script. It was written as the game was being produced.
 
now why is it that whenever anyone says the books are crap and irrelevant, that people say that theyre canon, and when they say that they are canon, people say theyre not!

That's... not what we're saying at all...
 
All the Baen and HarperCollins novels are canon (as well as the countless strategy guides), no matter what anyone says. They use the Wing Commander name legally and it was approved by creator Chris Roberts and the Origin/EA label. It doesn't get any more offical than that.

Like Madman himself, I don't see why not. Madman simply said that the novels are canon, which they are. So why's that misuse of the word canon?
 
Fanfic is about as far from canon as one could possibly get.
though im sure it would be above visions caused by sniffing paint, but not by much
 
But the way I read it he's not talking about fanfic, but about the official game books.
Fanfic is defenitely not canon, I'll agree to that.
 
The way he phrases it in his first post makes it appear that he is using canon to refer to WCX. Now I have no clue what WCX is, but from what everyone else here has said (and the interesting things it apparently contains regarding Double Helix), I'm guessing that its a fanfic.
Thus, all the comments about problems with his usage of the term 'canon'.

Better get used to read the word canon very often... it's one of the most used words on this board :)...
and my guess is that this is not gonna change in the near future:)

Fan fiction can be considered canon if the copyright holders/writers say they are and use them in the official stuff. However, this is rarely the case, and should never be presumed. For the record, no WC fan fiction is considered canon.
