What is the purpose of that thing? A big sitting duck which, *if* killed - like it had any chance of defending itself - releases a lot of flying target practices. It is only not worse than the Lamprey.
The Remora's listed as an Interceptor Drone IIRC, so the answer to that is no pilots.
The Ray, on the other hand, is basically a big transport to get all the Remora drones to the target, since I would imagine the Remoras don't have much in the way of fuel. It could also have a secondary role as a minelayer, though I'm not too sure on that last one, beyond having seen them laying mines in Prophecy.
Remoras are easy kills, but having to hunt them down takes time - especially when there are two or more Rays. Several Remoras swarming a single target can be devastating - I think the SWACS could be damaged quite badly by a Remora swarm if you weren't careful or quick enough in WCP.
Speaking of annoying ships, has anyone come across any specific weaknesses of the Devil Ray (you know, the Ace fighters), or do you just have to outfly 'em or force-feed 'em a missile or Devastator's Plasma blast?
Using wcpedit, I once flew the first sim mission in a Remora. And I won, too. It was kinda wild, because one hit and you're dead. That, plust one measly little gun.
At first I used to ignore them, but then it got to the point where they would clutter the radar so then I made it an effort to destroy them once I had taken out the mothership
True enough. They were the best killboard enhancers.
I actually got a thelepathic message from WCP developers telling me that the Ray Node is actually a ship sent by a rogue, nice faction of the bugs, with the sole purpose of giving us easy targets. Or maybe I didn't.
